Mysterious Saturday Review: Lies that bind

*2nd in the Liar Society series, read my review of book one*

Kate knows what happened to Grace and she's still trying to deal with the aftermath. There's a dedication to Grace at the school and afterwards, Kate receives a message.

That night at the Obsideo, the students say goodbye to Grace, the same way they've been saying goodbye to all the other students who have died over the years.

At first, Kate isn't planning to go, but after a series a strange circumstances, she changes her mind. She arrives with Liam and deals with the student body as best she can, through avoidance and snark.

A scream echoes through the night air and a girl goes missing. Kate's convinced it's the same people who messed with Grace. Kate's still curious about the secret societies and has vowed revenge. Her quest for revenge creates havoc in her personal relationships. She's desperately trying to hold everything  together, but she's running out of time. Can she help save Bethany?
My Thoughts: The second book is just as good as the first, leaving you breathless for more, once again. Kate's vow for revenge leads her to make poor decisions that constantly put her life in danger. I hate how she's put into a position where she's making people in her life unhappy because of her choices, however, I can't imagine her NOT making those choices. I love that she's willing to help a girl who's been horrible to her because she can't stand the thought of anyone else going through the same pain she went through. It shows her determination, her loyalty, and that she has a good heart.

My heart hurts for all the pain she's going through and how hard she's trying to pick up the pieces of her life, but how it's impossible to go back to the way things were. I like the addition of her former best friend, who's going through her own troubles. I like how they could remember Grace together, it showed a new side of Grace. For most of the book, I felt like Kate, floundering at all the possibilities and secrets the school holds. The action and danger kept me guessing until the end of book.

Cover Thoughts: I love the hair and that hat! It matches perfectly with the first cover in the series.

Mysterious Saturday Review: The Night She Disappeared

Gabie switched shifts at the pizza joint, where she works, with Kayla. Kayla had a date on Friday. When a mysterious call requests a pizza delivery, Drew doesn't think twice about it. Kayla goes to deliver the pizza and never returns.

Now Drew feels terrible as the police attempt to figure out what really happened that night. He shares information about the call to Gabie, telling her that the man asked if the girl in the mini cooper was delivering tonight. Once she hears that, Gabie understands it's significance. She was supposed to be kidnapped.

Now she'll do anything to piece together the events that night to find Kayla before it's too late.

My Thoughts: A fast paced mystery set in a small town.

I can't imagine what must have gone through Gabie's mind when she heard the truth from Drew. I think she handled it with composure. I admired her determination to find Kayla and her insistence that her friend wasn't dead. Together she and Drew made a great team.

I liked the relationships in the book, mostly how you can be work with people and be friendly but never really know them. Of course, I liked watching the relationship develop between Drew and Gabie. I really enjoyed reading the story from multiple perspectives, it made me want to turn the pages faster.

I loved the setting of the pizza joint. I worked for one when I was in college and loved it. This brought back memories and you could smell the pizzas they were baking.

A gripping read full of friendship, determination, and creepy moments.

Cover Thoughts: Creepy and perfect to match the story

Mysterious Saturday Review: Perception

*2nd in the series - Clarity is the first book*

After the summer, Clare's gained a reputation in school. She
s not bullied quite so much. Some of the popular crowd want to befriend her. Still, the moments from the summer haven't faded.

She's still trying to figure out her feelings for Justin and Gabriel.  Perry's spending a lot of time in his room or fighting with Clare.

When a local girl goes missing, Clare's anxious to help.  She's not sure what she can do without anyone wanting her assistance.

Then she starts receiving notes from a secret admirer.  It's not long before the notes escalate. She can feel someone watching her. The notes become pictures and presents. While Clare doesn't know the culprit, she's getting jumpy. Even around her new friend.

Could the disappearance be connected to her stalker? Is she next on the list?

My Thoughts: I devoured this book - just as I did the first one. I love Clare. She's smart, sassy, and unique. I love her power. I loved her struggle between the two guys (although I'm really glad about the one she chose). I found Mallory interesting. I loved the suspense and the creepiness of the stalker angle.  So looking forward to more!

Cover Thoughts: Love it!

Review: The Girl in the Park

Wendy and Rain used to be best friends but that seems ages ago.  Rain's shocked when Wendy's mom calls her looking for her daughter. Wendy didn't come home that night.

Rain saw her a party - just before she made a play for another girl's guy. They spoke briefly. Rain wishes they talked further when she hears the news.

Wendy's body is discovered in the park by a runner. She was strangled.

Now all anyone can talk about is her party girl ways. No one mentions her big heart. No one mentions her loyalty to her friends. Soon it's hard to untangle the rumors and the headlines from the truth.

Rain knows one thing: Someone stole Wendy's voice, so Rain will uncover the truth and use her voice to speak for Wendy.

My Thoughts: I couldn't stop turning the pages - I wanted to know what happened to Wendy. I wanted to discover more about her life. I love mysteries and this one kept me guessing until the end. I can't talk too much about my thoughts without spoiling the end - except to say that while it was clever, it wasn't the ending I'd hoped to read. I think teens will devour this mystery because of the rumors, the friendship drama, the boy drama, and the pull of loyalty.

Cover Thoughts: Haunting. At first I just saw the trees and then my eyes found the girl's face. I really like it.
