Picture Book Review: Garden Books

Just a few garden books, also great for the garden theme for Summer Reading

A dandelion isn't sure what she could be.

This book goes through the growth of the flower and how to changes over time. There is also an end page that shares information about dandelions. The illustrations are cheerful.

This book follows the life of a seed what it needs to grow and flourish. 

I love how this book shows the steps of flowers and acknowledges that it's hard to wait. I love the message that every seed is beautiful and different. 

Not technically a gardening book, but this one is about the sun. The squirrel is pretty certain that someone is stealing the sun, but bird explains that the sun goes to bed and gets up at different times during the year. 

This is part of a series of picture books. Squirrel and Bird are a great pair, I love them. There are end pages that share information about light and dark and seasons. 

Board Books: Spring and Garden Books

Just a few board books for Spring:

Spring is here and it's a gorgeous day to play outside. The animals are having so much fun, and the barn keeps them all cozy. I love the illustrations in this book. 

The life cycle of a tree starting with a squirrel burying an acorn. 

It's a very informative and simple book that poses a question that is then answered. Great for curious minds.

Lots of information in this book - perfect for sharing vocabulary. 

I love the step-by-step pages on how to grow a plant inside. I adore the illustrations; they are magical. 

This touch and feel book is cute - with four friends the caterpillar spies in the garden.

I love how this book asks questions. Even though it's a short book, there's a lot for the reader and caregiver to talk about. 

Eight animal friends are in the garden and each of them are doing something. 

This is a great book to talk about animals and their habits. As each of the animal is doing something: stretching, hiding, flying..., this is a great movement book too. The illustrations are bright and cheerful.  I'm looking forward to reading this during summer storytimes at the library.

This book details how to grow and garden and shows off some animals from the garden.

I love the photographs in this book. There is a lot of interaction with this book, making it also good for storytime reading. 

This book talks about indoor plants and shares lots of information.

I love the illustrations, they're stunning and charming. This is a very cozy read. 

I loved the first book so much, I bought the rest of the series for the library. And they're perfect for this year's summer theme. 

This is a larger board book with charming illustrations and a lovely story about four friends who come together to grow a garden - but they also have gardens where they live. 

There are so many types of gardens in this book and so much information. 

These books are perfect for the smallest readers at your life for spring and gardening, but especially for this year's Plant a Seed summer reading theme. I'm quite looking forward to warmer sunnier weather.

I haven't done adult summer reading ideas before, but I read a bunch of cozies featuring gardens and flowers and thought I'd share them.

As it's spring, it's lovely to think about flowers and gardens again after that brutally cold winter.

Picture Book Review: Nature Picture Books

 

A poetry book about woodpeckers. 

The illustrations are lovely and even though there is not a lot of text, there's plenty of information. There's also a lot of back matter in the book that rounds out the book. 

A tree falls down in the forest, and it changes and helps everything.

The illustrations are soft and there's so much to pour over in this book. The fallen tree helps so many parts of the forest and lives on. There's a lot of back matter in this book too for further learning. 

Marcus isn't sure about gardening, but his Grandma loves it. She shares her love and knowledge about plants with him. Soon, he's taken to gardening too.

Marcus is funny and clever. I love how he relates to the plants and the garden. This one is perfect for PLANT A SEED theme.

One boy walks with his dog and collections questions about all the things they see. 

The seasons change in this book. The paper illustrations are amazing. This book asks a lot of questions but doesn't answer all of them. This might lead to more research to discover the answers. There is a lot of vocabulary here and a lot to talk about.
