Picture Book Wednesday: Valentine Books (1)

Just a few Valentine books that came into the library last year and this year.

Some of these are about love and friendship - which fit perfectly for this time of year as well.

Who gives the best hug? Could it be an animal?

This is a cute story - with lots of vocabulary, lots of animals, and a very sweet ending.

If you were my Valentine, these are all the things I would do for you and with you.

Charming with lovely illustrations, this board book is very sweet with lots of different animals and their families.

This is a charming and funny book about all different kinds of hugs.

This is a sweet book with illustrations that pop. Lots of love here.

A funny animal parent and child book about love.

Lots of puns and love in this charmingly illustrated board book. Super sweet and one to read again and again.

Galentines are full of love for grandmothers, mothers, aunts, and friends. A celebration of sisterhood.

Nothing cares to love (book's tagline) between a parent and a child. Lots of outside moments and lots of fun here.

Middle Grade Monday: Huda F Cares?

Huda and her sisters are excited to learned that they are going to Disney World. They are not excited for the 24-hour car ride nor the forced bonding sister time. When they get to the park, they split up into groups. Huda struggles with her sisters. She also struggles with people commenting on her Muslim clothing and her family's moments of prayer. Huda isn't sure what to do, but she does have her sisters to turn to.

My Thoughts: This graphic novel was funny, sweet, and full of drama. I laughed at the sister moments in the car. I have had similar moments, although I only have one sister. I felt bad for Huda as she tried to navigate her feelings with being visually different from others. She deals with comments from people and stands up for herself. It makes me want to hug her. I love that she packed books to Disney World (yes, the lines are a perfect time to read.).  A great graphic novel sequel. I hope there are more Huda books coming!

Library Recommendation: A great graphic novel series for your school and public library collection.

I Can Read Books

Just a few new I Can Read books that came in at my library:

Mike's job is to deliver items that people request. When he's delivering in the hardware store, he notices that people are lined up. Dan has a broken leg and is a lot slower these days. Mike steps in to lend a hand.

It's Makeda's birthday. Instead of bringing in cupcakes to the class, she's going to bring in coconut drops. But she's worried that no one will like them as much as she does. She wants to tell them all about her family's stories as they eat.

Reina loves going to the park with her friend to practice gymnastics. But her friend has a new puppy and he's BIG. Reina's scared of the puppy but doesn't know how to tell her friend. Eventually, they have a conversation about feelings.
