Review: The Hidden

Abbey's still trying to unravel the truth about her future. She knows that she's linked forever to Caspian. He's the perfect guy for her. She knows that her death will be sooner rather than later, but she has SO many questions she wants answered.

As she goes through the motions of life, she finds Caspian acting strange. There are times when he can't pick anything up. There are times when he falls asleep and she can't wake him up.

Could something or someone be trying to stop their happily forever after???

My Thoughts: This wasn't the ending I expected for the series, but after reading and digesting it, I think it's the ONLY one that works. There's a part that I really wanted to happen, but didn't, and that makes me sad. That being said, I adored this trilogy. It's chilling, engrossing, and full of emotion. I loved trying to figure out all the mysteries surrounding Abbey and Caspian. I loved their romance. I loved how they waited for November 1st and what it meant to them. I can't wait to see what Jessica Verday comes up with next!

Review: The Haunted

*Spoilers: If you haven't read The Hollow, don't read this review*

Abbey's recovering from her broken heart and nervous breakdown after learning the truth about Caspian. She relocates to her aunt's house, but is called back to Sleepy Hollow for a bridge dedication she must deliver in her dead BFF's honor.

Abbey isn't sure she can handle everything, especially when she sees Caspian for the first time. It's a relief to know she's not crazy. Soon, she's spending her summer scooping ice cream, studying science with Ben so she passes Chemistry, and hanging out with Caspian.

There's one moment where she thinks funny and sweet Ben could become something more than just a friend. Is he interested in her? It doesn't really matter because she can't stopping thinking about Caspian. Is she falling in love with a ghost? Could her destiny involve a dangerous life turn?

My Thoughts: I really loved this dark tale with humor, heartbreak, and a undeniable love between two people. It continues with the first book perfectly and I can't wait to read the conclusion with The Hidden. I love reading about the perfume. As Abbey unravels more and more about Caspian, she unravels more about her own future. I love watching her world change and be entwined in the Sleepy Hollow Legend. I absolutely LOVE hearing about the plans for her store. It sounds absolutely perfect to me.

Cover Thoughts: I love it - it's dark and mysteries and ties in well with the book.

Cover Reveal: The Hidden

I just got The Haunted. I can't wait to dive into that this weekend. The cover for the third book has just been released. It's gorgeous. I really love it! It comes out September 2011.

Jessica Verday and Michelle Zink visited the library on Monday night. As you can see in addition to their great books, we had great treats. The authors chatted about their books.

Jessica talked about her perfume making - which you can read about in her books. She also made the character's perfumes which is awesome. She mentioned reading the latest Joe Hill novel (who is Stephen King's son). She talked about researching religion and how there's at least one common thread throughout the burial process.

Michelle mentioned combining mythologies in her book - Celtic, Norse, and others. She mentioned loving Stephen King and horror. She spoke about not reading while she writes so the voices don't combine and so she won't lose her muse. However, after the book is complete the reading begins.

Review: The Hollow

Abbey loves her life in Sleepy Hollow until something happens to her best friend Kristen. One day she vanishes from their spot by the bridge close to the cemetery. Abbey refuses to believe that she's dead, even throughout the funeral.

It's hard moving on without her BFF. School drags on. Life drags on. It all seems meaningless without Kristen. She wanders towards the cemetery again - the place where they used to hang out.

There, Abbey meets a boy. He's mysterious, hard to read, very cute, and they can talk for hours. She finds herself waiting until they meet again.

She's beginning to feel alive again, beginning to live through the pain. Abbey finally visits her friend's grave. She talks to the grave as she's talking to her BFF - as they once talked to Washington Irving. Abbey can't think of anything to reach out to her friend - she decides to make Kristen her signature perfume.

Working on the project makes her feel closer to her BFF until she uncovers a secret diary. As she reads about the secret her BFF was hiding from her, she begins to question their relationship. She grieves again.

Abbey turns to Caspian, the new boy, for comfort. Is he everything she hopes? Can she rely on him? She shares her hopes and dreams for the future with him, but he's still very vague and mysterious. Is there something he's not sharing?


My Thoughts: I really loved the bits about making the perfume. I loved untangling the relationships between the characters and discovering their secrets. I grieved along with Abbey - she goes through so much emotionally that it was hard not to be draw in.

The Cover: I LOVE this cover - the necklace ties in with the book and the dark background reiterates the tone of the book. I'm not a fan of the hardcover look.
