Review: Something to Talk About

When Hollywood writer Jo takes her assistant to an awards show, the pair's photograph sparks dating rumors.

At first Emma things the rumors are annoying but that they won't last.  Paparazzi find her house, she's getting calls from reporters, and her family isn't quite sure what to believe. But the rumors persist and everything starts to change.

Emma's never thought about her boss before in that way, but once the rumors start, it's hard not to look at Jo differently. The two of them are becoming closer - something in between co-workers and friends.

With Emma's time working for Jo coming to a close, would it be a good time to start a romance?

My Thoughts: I've been longing to read this since I first heard about it. I was under the impression that this was a fake dating story - it's not. But it is a Slow Burn Hollywood Romance. And it was really really good. I love Hollywood stories - this one was a little bit different in the fact that neither of the main characters was an actress. I loved reading about the other side to Hollywood. I loved the idea that Jo came up with to help women in the field, I really want to read/know more about that project. I didn't want this book to end - and I hope for more stories set in this world so we can see some favorite characters again! This is Meryl Wilsner's debut novel - and I'm eagerly looking forward to her next book.

Review: Date Me, Bryson Keller

Kai hasn't told anyone his truth yet; he's waiting for college to come out. He never expected his coming out story to start with a dare for someone else.

The most popular boy in school doesn't believe in high school relationships and accepts a dare to date a new senior every week for three months. The first person to ask him out on Monday is accepted. The relationship will last until Friday. Girls line up to ask him out.

On a whim and because he's had a really bad morning, Kai asks him out. Bryson agrees. The more time they spend together, the more Kai starts to imagine the what ifs. Can you fall for someone in just five days?

My Thoughts: I loved this book - it made me smile, cry, and smile again. I loved the conversations between Kai and Bryson as they got to know each other. I love how they shared so much with each other. I loved Yazz; she reminded me of Kitty from To All The Boys I've Loved Before. Of course, my heart broke for Kai during the Black Moment. And I hated all the hurtful comments people made. They made me so angry. But I did love how people had Kai's back, especially his friends and his sister. A fantastic heartwarming book that I did not want to end. And it's a debut novel! I can't wait to read what the author writes next!

Library Recommendation: Highly recommended for school and public libraries. Great Book for Pride Month (and the rest of the year).

Review: Someday Someday Maybe

Franny has given herself three years in New York City to prove she can make it as an actress. She has six months left.  At the end of six months, she might move back home and marry her high school sweetheart.

She's going to make the best use of her time left in New York. Franny's acting class has a showcase and she hopes this will land her an agent. When the night comes, she falls on her butt after a robe incident.

But that night changes the course of her life. She has a meeting with two potential agents. Plus she gained the attention of James, a fellow actor. Will her meetings with either agents pan out into something lucrative and fulfill her dream?

My Thoughts: I was super excited about this book because of the author. I'm a HUGE fan of Gilmore Girls and of Lauren Graham. I have a hard time with this book because at times I loved it, but at times I wanted to shake Franny for making bad decisions. Still, I really liked it. I loved the calendar doodles in between chapters and the phone messages at the start of chapters - they really broke up the books and added in humor. I really liked Jane and Dan. I hated James - with a passion. I enjoyed the auditions and Franny people watching.  The book was funny, quirky, and smart; it made me miss Gilmore Girls all over again.

Review: The Liar Society

OUT IN MARCH:

Kate receives an email from her dead best friend Grace and her whole world changes. Grace couldn't really be emailing her from beyond the grave...could she?

Either way, it turns out Kate was RIGHT about Grace's death. It wasn't an accident and Grace's boyfriend might know more then he's letting on.

Kate uncovers Grace's pearls for luck and starts digging up the past.
The more clues she uncovers, the more emails Grace sends her, and the more dangerous her life becomes. With all the rumors, it's hard to know who to trust.

Does Kate have anyone watching her back? Could it be her nerdy neighbor who has a conspiracy obsession and a major crush on Kate? Could it be a boy with a dangerous past, but a wicked smile?

Will Kate solve the mystery of Pemberley Brown's past and find out what really happened the night of Grace's death?

Obtaining the Book: I've been stalking the authors of this book for months -because I couldn't wait to read this book and because they're hilarious. Their blog makes me laugh daily. So I was super happy when I found this gem in my mailbox - and it IS a gem. I had already read the first chapter online (something I don't normally do because it only makes me want the book even more - which this one did). I was hooked from the first little bit and I never looked back.

My Thoughts: I seriously loved this book and I tweeted about my need for the next book RIGHT NOW. I loved it because of mystery, the romance, the friendships, sense of danger, and the LAYERS. As Kate unravels the mystery of Grace's death,, the reader finds out what happened after Grace's death. I loved quirky nerdy Seth and his competition (not really) Dylan who's the edgy bad boy. I loved how these three fit together. I loved the clues scattered all over the school and researching the history of the school. All in all, I just really loved this book.

Cover Thoughts: I like the cover. I love the girl in her uniform and the pearls. I think the pink hair adds some flair. I'm not crazy about the sign though. I wish it had an emblem on it or something different. That said, I do think that this cover screams to be picked up.
