Review: Geekerella

Geekerella (Once Upon a Con, #1)
* First book in a series *
For most people, Starfield is an amazing show. But to Elle, it's so much more than that. The show is tied up with her parents' memories (both now deceased). A movie is now being filmed, so publicity is ramping up.

When she spies show's Con will have a cosplay contest, she knows that she must enter. She finds her parents' old costumes in the attic. Elle's co-worker volunteers to help Elle re-fit the costume for her body.

Elle must keep both her co-worker's new friendship and the Con a secret from her family. They will ruin it for her or worse - forbid her to attend. She vows not to let them ruin her chance.
My Thoughts: I really enjoyed this retelling of Cinderella. I loved how Elle and her "prince" met and started to communicate. I enjoyed the growing friendship between Sage and Elle. Obviously I felt heartbroken for Elle with her home situation. But I did love her blog and her dedication to the famdom. I loved the love for fandoms this book showcased. I quite enjoyed the secondary love plot. And I'm looking forward to the second and third book.

Cover Thoughts: Charming

Library Recommendation: A fun fandom romance - perfect for your school and public library collections.

Dr. Who: The Runaway Tardis (Pop Classics)
After a terrible day at her new school, a girl packs a sandwich and runs away. In the woods, she discovers this phone booth where she meets the Doctor, travels to new worlds, and meets a friend.
A fun book that's perfect for fans of Doctor Who. This sweet story will capture hearts and introduce readers to a different world. Plus the artwork is also great.

Picture Book Wednesday: Let's Find Momo

30804404

A picture book of hide and seek with Momo and other day to day objects,

I love these Momo books, I'm happy to see this one for kids. It's another winner with great photos and bright colors, The two page spread had one page for hidden objects and one page for seeking.

It's a fantastic book for the library, but also fun for a baby shower gift.

Review: Paperback Crush

40093255

Gabrielle Moss writes about the tween and teen books of the 90s and 80s - the first golden age of teen books where the Baby-Sitters Club and Sweet Valley High ruled the school.

My Thoughts: I couldn't put this book down!
I loved learning tidbits about the publishing world during this time. I loved the snark. I loved the nostalgic feeling this book gave me. It made me want to go back and read some of these books again. No surprise here - I read several of these books.

I was a bit disappointed that this book didn't talk about Freshman Dorm.

I'm an Elizabeth.
I wanted to be Claudia (for her art skills and all that candy hidden around her room.)

Mini Review: Jane Austen Cover to Cover

200 years of Jane Austen's book covers.

The Good:
* Fascinating look at Jane Austen's covers from her publication date until now
* Great graphics
* Informative on the publication on her novels (especially the copyright details)

The Bad:
Nothing, it was perfect.

A look at a few covers:
The very strange one from the 60s
Reminds me of the Sunfire Romances that I devoured in 6th grade
Created with a type of yarn, very interesting
Might be my favorite covers!
Final Thoughts: If you're a Jane Austen fan this book is a must read!

BEA Recap: Book Bags

Getting Bags at BEA is always fun - there are SO many great ones each year.
Plus they're great conversation starters in line. People ask and rave about bags.
This year I didn't collect too many, but here are a few I did snag

So many interesting books on this one.
I feel smarter carrying this one.

The cutest bag!

Very light, perfect for taking books to the beach

The best BEA bag - lots of pockets for all my things
Plus, it didn't weight down my shoulders.

Sure cute kids bag! Both sides are adorable
