Review: Mind Games

Fia and Annie are bound to each other. They survive because they have to - together. They're stuck in the hands of a company, who uses each of them separately and against each other. They have no free will.

Annie can see into the future, especially when it comes to her sister. Fia has skills that allow her to always survive.

Fia's sent on a mission, only at the last minute, she changes the mission. She can't kill the boy she's sent to destroy. Instead she helps him escape. It's the second time she's done something unexpected.

This time she can't let anyone know what happened. She can't take the risk they will hurt Annie. Fia must figure out a way to keep the company from seeing inside her mind all while trying to find a way to escape.

My Thoughts: I really loved this book. It sucked me in and refused to let me go. I had to read it to figure what happened. I couldn't put it down.

Think Nikita for Teens: there's action, danger, an evil company, fight scenes, a hot romance, and two sisters just trying to survive. Mind Games unfolds in a matter that asks more questions than it answers, leaving you anxious to uncover more. The past moments indicated a clear moment where everything changed, but then moves back into the present drama. The bond between the sisters is so strong and yet so painful. My heart went out to each of them.  I admire their strength and their loyalty to each other.  I can't wait to see what happens next. It's book I'm still thinking about long after reading it.

Review: Crimson Frost

 **4th Book in the Mythos Academy series - contains SPOILERS from previous books**

Gwen's world is crumbling before her eyes.Her first official date with Logan is a complete disaster when his father shows up. Mr. Quinn is on the Protectorate Board. He wants to charge Gwen with willfully allowing Loki (God of Chaos) to escape.


Gwen's dumbfounded with this charge as she did everything in her power to stop the god from rising. Now the student body hates her and she's on trial for her life.


Gwen has a handful of friends, her Grandmother, and a few teachers who believe in her. The rest of the world hurls insults at her and makes her life completely miserable.


Can Gwen convince the Protectorate Board that she's not the person responsible?

My Thoughts: I ADORE this series for so many reasons: the hot romance, the awesome library, the action, the danger, and Gwen's ability to kick butt! I'm so addicted to it and I can't wait for the next book. In this installment of the series, I love how Gwen's friends and family surround her with love. They give her the strength she needs.  I love how the action unfolds, with more danger than ever before.  The action and the danger make this series one I devour. Beyond the action and danger, there's so much emotional torment in this novel.  I feel for Gwen as she goes through the roughest patch of her life.  As much as I hated the ending, I understood the reasoning behind it. It leaves me curious to uncover what will happen next.

Cover Thoughts: I love it! I especially love the bits of purple from her shirt to her eyes to her necklace that tie the cover together.

Review: Liar and Spy

Georges moves into a new building (same school) in Brooklyn. His father sees a notice posted about a Spy Club and makes a comment on it. Georges attends the first meeting where he meets Safer.

Safer has some interesting ideas about the people in the building. He's always watching them either through the lobby cameras or through his binoculars. He starts training Georges in spy craft.

The stranger the lessons get, the more Georges starts to wonder if he wants Safer for his friend.

My Thoughts: I felt let down after hearing all the hype from this book. I mean, I liked the book, but I didn't love it. I felt disconnected from the characters. Sure I was curious about Mr X, but that was about it. I thought Georges was amusing and entertaining. I like how he thought. I liked the moments in school, where he brought everyone together. I liked his father. I hated the twists at the end about Georges mother and Safer. I just left me with a terrible taste in my mouth. I wanted to love this book, but I only ended up liking it.

What's on My Holds List (35)

My Librarian friend Jess from I Read to Relax came up with a great idea.  It's to highlight the books on hold at the library. I usually have 20-40 items checked out at the library and another 20 items on hold.

Falling For You: I love Lisa Schroeder's book and this one is on a very important topic.

Essence: I loved The Pledge and can't wait to find what happens next!

 Gates of Paradise: The final book in the Blue Bloods series - I have mixed feelings about this one. I can't wait to find out what happens, but at the same time I don't want it to end!

5. Comment on blogs (This was part of last year's goals and I did really good until... I didn't)
6. Meet more people at BEA - this mostly means putting myself out there and stop being so shy!
7. Finish the world building overhaul of my Princess story 
8. Overhaul the other pages of my blog - I need to update these badly and I've been putting it off
9. Create some more READ posters for the library (especially Male authors!)
10. Be a better Netgalley reader!

Tween Tuesday Review: Double Vision

Linc always gets into trouble; he just can't help himself. On a field trip to a farm, he has an incident with the chickens. Not only is the video posted all over YouTube, but the farmer's threatening to sue his parents for damages.

Help arrives in a strange way, government agents want Linc to do a job for them. If he does, without catastrophe and without telling his parents, the lawsuit will disappear. Linc realizes he has no choice.

He's a dead ringer for a secret agent, Benjamin Green. Benjamin's gone missing, but he's needed to exchange a painting in France. Linc's taken to France, has his hair died, and given a set of instructions.

Of course, things don't go according to plan, but Linc's not about to let that stop him. He has to save his family and his new friend.

My Thoughts:  I really like Linc. He tries hard, but he just can't help doing things that get him into trouble. He's amusing. I liked Francoise and how she's trying hard to save her own family. I liked how they worked together, figuring out the clues her father left behind. I found Henry's role a little unbelievable, but he was the loveable side-kick. With the danger, the action, and the mystery, it's a great book for tween readers craving action.

Review: Revenge of the Girl with Great Personailty

Lexie is great. She's a great friend, a great girl, and a great sister. But she's never the center of attention, especially when it comes to boys. She's tired of it all.

When she makes a bet with her friend, she never dreams that changing her look will change her life. She's wearing clothes that fit her. She's putting on makeup. She's fixing her hair. And she's loving the attention it gets her. Suddenly, it's a brand new Lexi.

But does this new girl have the same set of problems?

My Thoughts: I ADORE Elizabeth Eulberg! I've loved her three previous books and this one is great too. Lexi's unhappy as she has a terrible mother who's more concerned with the pageant world than either of her daughters. I liked the peek into the pageant world - it was both enlightening and amusing.  Lexi's father is mostly absent.  I love Lexi's friends - the sassy Cam and the sweet Benny. They both want what's best for her, but not at the expense of her happiness or having to pretend she's someone else.   I love the way Lexi attempts to make her dreams come true instead of waiting on the sidelines for life to find her.  Eulberg writes a wonderful story about self-worth, self confidence, and standing up for your true self.
