Review: Orphan of Destiny

** WARNING - this is book 3 in the series - SPOILERS exist from the previous 2 books**

Tristan and his companions Robard and Maryam have finally made their way back to England. They managed to escape capture from Sir Hugh. However, Tristan became injured during the escape. Now he's trying to heal as they make their way North to deliver the package to Rosslyn.

As they make their way North, they encounter old friends, make new friends, learn of death and destruction of loved ones, and attempt to hide their tracks from old and new enemies.

They stop briefly at Robard Hode's estate before the three friends continue their journey. When they arrives at the end location, they encounter a grave danger that might cost them everything.

My Thoughts: The end of a great series filled with action, danger, friendship, betrayal, and loyalty. I love how the tale weaves in historical/mythical people such as Robard Hode (Robin Hood), Maryam (Maid Marian), Little John, and Friar Tuck with the Holy Grail. I loved the series. The map was great. I wish there had been an historical note at the end of the series explaining the historical elements of the tale.

Cover Thoughts: I adore these covers because they bring forth the action of the series and they're eye catching!

Review: Trail of Fate

At the end of KEEP OF THE GRAIL, Tristan's desperately trying to return to England under the orders from his commanding knight carrying a very precious cargo. He washes up on shore and wakes up to find himself surrounded by swordsmen.

Much to his dismay, he's in France. The leader of the swordsman is Celia doesn't want to let him go. Luckily Robard Hode and Maryam (Robin Hood and Maid Marian) eventually find him. Celia has enough trouble of her own. She's bringing her people to a safe haven where they can defend themselves against corrupt religious leaders.

Tristan has no doubt that Sir Hugh will catch up with him, he knows it's just a matter of time. He wished to be in England before that happened, but fate brings him to a fork in the road. When Celia lets him go, he could return on his journey or he could stay and help Celia fight against prejudice. Once he makes his choice, he stays to fight for Celia, not knowing that Sir Hugh will be upon them shortly. Will his remaining with Celia and her people bring more trouble than help to them? Will Sir Hugh finally capture Tristan and his most prized possession?

My Thoughts: This 2nd book picks up directly after the cliff hanger ending of book one. Spradlin never lefts on the action, danger, and friendship between these three travelers. There's a sprinkle of romance in this book, which adds to the great adventure. I adored this book, it's another fast read with tons of action and turns to keep you guess.

Keeper of the Grail

Tristan doesn't know much about his past. He's been living with monks when a group of the Knights Templar request accommodations. He's asked to become a squire for Sir Thomas, a highly respected knight. However, he's also made a powerful enemy in Sir Hugh. After much decision, Tristan agrees to accompany the knights to Dover and from there to the Holy Lands where they will take part in the Crusade with king Richard the Lionhearted.

Tristan learns how to defend himself as well as some tactical lessons. He's also learned not to say alone often as trouble follows him. He doesn't mind the hard work preparing for the trip. When they arrive in the Holy Land, things change and the battles begin. He learns that practicing and battles are entirely two completely opposite in terms of emotion, danger, and fear.

In a defensive move, when their fort is almost defeated, Sir Thomas hands Tristan the most powerful object in the world and makes him swear to take it back to England at all costs and above all to trust no one. Everyone wants the Holy Grail. Can Tristan get safety back or will trouble follow him still?

My Thoughts: A great start to a new series that's half historical fiction and half adventure. A fabulous read! The end left me a huge cliff hanger and now I'm anxious to find out what happened! Plus, I love knights and the Holy Grail.
