Mini Review: Midnight Bites

The Good:
I loved going back to this world. This is one of my favorite vampire series.
I loved seeing favorite characters.
I loved the extra information from favorite and some not so favorite characters.
New stories
The relationships, the drama, and the horror of the town

The Bad:
I've never been a short story fan because I always want the stories to be longer. While this is nearly 500 pages, I still wanted more.

Final Thoughts: Perfect for fans of Morganville - get your hands on this one pronto!

Review: Evernight

Bianca hates her new school and the fact that her parents aren't giving her a choice about attending. She barely fits in with her peers. Although she does meet a hot guy on the first day, he runs hot and cold with her. She can't figure him out. Then she makes a few advances towards him and he finally becomes her boyfriend. That's when things start going wrong.

Lucas is normal and Bianca is a vampire. When she bites him, they both gain super human powers for a little while. The school covers up the incident and Bianca hates lying to her boyfriend about what really happened that night. When Lucas sees her defending her friend from harm, he figures out the truth right before winter break.

When he returns to the school, Bianca is so happy to see him, but surprised. She doesn't know he's been hiding a secret too. Once it comes out, will they still be in love?

My Thoughts: The book starts out creepy and intriguing and then halfway through I discovered that she's a vampire and she's known about it her whole life. I kinda felt that information should have been told upfront. Still the love story moves the book along and the secrets unfold making it almost impossible to put down, very eerie and sinister. As it's the start of a series, the cliff hanger rocks. I can't wait to pick up the next book.

Thoughts on Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Last night, I finished watching Buffy

There were parts that were amazing:

I love that it was a girl kicking butt show

I loved the relationships - between Buffy and her friends

and usually between Buffy and her relationships

I (obviously) adored Giles

I liked how Faith came back into play

There were times when I felt the show go off track

There were definitely things I didn't understand - like the monsters at the end being the same that took Buffy ages to kill just one...

But overall it was snarky, clever, funny, exciting, and enjoyable!

Van Alen Legacy

Schuyler and Oliver are on the run - and have been for the past year. Just when they think they might catch a break, disaster strikes. Jack appears. And right behind him - a whole slew of Silver Bloods wanting Schuyler. After a battle of sorts, Schuyler decides not to return home. But a sickness pushes her back to New York where she's concoct a plan to keep Oliver safe. Given the battle in Paris, the Blue Bloods now realize the Silver bloods have emerged once again - a fact they didn't want to believe at first. Now that she's back in the city, other forces are at work. Bliss is fighting her own inner demons trying to understand reality. Mimi just might have found her own happiness outside of her dutiful life while she helps track down information. Jack complicates the relationship between Oliver and Schuyler just by being there. Is it worth the risk? How far will the Silver Bloods go and what do they really want and how can Schuyler save the world?


The fourth book in the series starts a year after the showdown Schuyler witnessed. It's takes a little bit to get into the book mostly because so much has happened, but once you're hooked - it's leaves you waiting for the next installment. Romantic drama, danger, inner demons, struggling with yourself vs expectations, and family drama make this series one not be missed. Oh by way - it's about vampires too :)

Blood Promise

Rose made the choice to hunt down Dimitri in the Strigoi form and kill him, but she has no idea how hard her decision will make her life. First of all, she has to leave Lissa. Then she has to find Dimitri. In a roundabout way, she ends up at his family home in Russia, where she tells them her story. They mourn his death and welcome her into the family. Anyone can see how she feels for him. Rose wants nothing more to stay there, but she knows she's just at the beginning of her journey. When she tracks down Dimitr, she can't help but fall under his spell as he keeps her prisoner. He wants her to turn to the dark side with him. Rose doesn't want to when she's herself, but then he comes in and confuses her. Is she strong enough to escape and do what she came to do?

I love this series. It's so full of twists and turns - surprising the daylights out of me. Plus each book hangs ona massive cliff hanger that makes the wait time very hard. I love the cover. I love the relationship between Lissa and Rose - and how that's changing.

Bite Me!

AJ's life totally sucks. First of all - her mom is marrying her boyfriend's father - putting an end to their relationship. Unfortuantely, she's having a hard time keeping her hands off him. She tells him it's time to move on and she even picks out his future girlfriend - but she never expected him to take her advice. Now she's stuck at a party and fuming. However, there's a boy who has his eye on her. She leaves the party for a secluded makeout spot. But trouble comes calling, she leaves the area surrounded by her girlfriends and her new brother to enact revenge. When word reaches school that Noah never made it home and AJ's brother might have been the last person to see him alive, AJ freaks out. She's terrified that she's responsible for Noah's death and even more afraid that her secret just might be revealed. She's not normal and she's looking into her family history to proof her innocence. But can you even really trust a vampire?

An awesome first novel with a killer twist and a sequel (Love Bites) already in the works. The cover's amazing and drew me in along with the title. I'm quite looking forward to the next book.

Twilight Release and Friday Flair

With the movie Twilight coming out tomorrow (or tonight, depending on how you look at it), here's a few things to read/enjoy after you've watched the movie (again). I know I'm going out to buy it....

Twilight: The Director's Notebook
I read this one yesterday (due to the library closing early for plumbing issues). It's filled with director Catherine Hardwicke's ideas for the movie. She dishes on costumes, casting, scenes, filming in the cold rainy weather, and making decisions about scenes. Pictures cover the majority of the book, but she writes notes on all the pages. The pictures include storyboards, sketches, floor plans for a scene, before and after shots of a certain location, and rehearsal stills. All and all, it's a very quick and extremely interesting read. It takes you behind the scenes to show you the decisions made and how a scene became altered. A must read for Twilight fans.




Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side: Jessica finds her world turned upside down when a new boy appears in school telling her that she's a vampire princess and betrothed to him. He's here to take her back to Europe to stop a war. Jessica, although knows she's adopted, doesn't believe in vampires. She can't believe it when her parents tell her that not only is Lucius telling the truth, he's staying at their house so she can get used to the idea. While Jessica may not want to spend the rest of her life with Lucius, she can't help but be intrigued by him. She's more interested in another boy, but that doesn't mean her thoughts don't sometimes stray toward Lucius. Can she learn to love him and give up her life?

A romantic and heart wrenching tale that will leave readers breathless and wanting more.




Hunted: Zoey Redbird is in trouble - guy trouble, school trouble, and family trouble. Although she and Erik broke up, but they're thinking of getting back together. Her episode with the teacher last book severed the imprint between her and Heath, but that's about to change again. While down in the tunnels, Zoey and Erik get into an argument when Heath appears. Zoey heads outside to chat privately with him and gets attacked by a giant bird under Kalona's control. She's gravely injured. So injured that she needs blood - Heath's blood. With Kalona ruling the school with Neferet by his side, it's a dangerous place for Zoey and her friends. They're determined to bring Kalona and Neferet down, but at what cost?

Happy Halloween

1. Here I am handing out stickers to all the children in our Halloween Parade at the library. Pictures were take by Norwich Bulletin photographer. They walked around the second floor of the library gathering stickers and candy

4. I've decided that I'm never going to be a writer, unless I actually write regularly, SO I've signed up for NaNoWriMo and we'll see how that goes. That might cut down some on my reading time, so if there are not many reviews going up next month, please be patient.

5. It's 2:12 and I haven't eaten one piece of candy. Plenty of other not so healthy things but no candy. That won't last too much longer I'm guessing....

Books Round up

Fern is strange, even within her own family. Light bothers her eyes, she can talk with the family dog, and can predict the weather extremely accurately. Her twin brother looks nothing like her, but he's her best friend and the only one who sticks by her in school. The other girls make it clear she's nothing but a freak and thus she spends most of the lunch period alone and recess hiding up a tree. And then one day, something significant happens: one minute Fern is sitting in class (secretly reading a book) and the next minute, she's one a beach. Fern's discovering a whole lot more information about herself: she can teleport and control water. More importantly, she discovers that she's a vampire and she's adopted. This explains so much to Fern, but it also terrifies her. She's torn between not having all the information and is forced to chose sides. She must choose and soon before the biggest dangerous she's ever faced comes to power - if she helps him. She doesn't know which side to trust, but must quickly figure things out if she and her family is going to survive.

This book is very different from the other vampire tales. It's more a good vs evil fantasy tale - with vampires thrown in. I'm curious to see if there will be eleven books, based on the eleven "Unusuals" that makes Fern so powerful.

Jasmine and her family moved to Venice for her senior year in high school - and she's not pleased about it. However, she trying to become the model daughter in hopes of returned home to visit her friends and her new boyfriend. The plan fails when instead of plane ticket home, she's rewarded with a visit from her cousin. When one of her new friends believes she's being dangerously stalked. Previously Jasmine resisted the urge to help her friend, but no, the gloves are off. She's no longer interested in becoming the model daughter. When her friend turns up dead on her way to meet Jasmine, Jasmine knows it wasn't suicide. She takes matters into her own hands, even if they are a bit clumsy.

The sequel to Bad Kitty and another fun and tricky mystery. Jasmine friends come to her rescue several times in an amusing fashion. I love that she's accident prone and attracts trouble like a magnet.

Everyone has a personal fairy in Charlie's world. And she HATES hers. Charlie has a parking fairy, which means that everywhere she goes not matter what tiem of day, there is always the perfect parking spot just waiting for her. Because of her fairy, she's often borrowed in emergency situations or for running errands. She's completely fed up. Isntead of riding, she's now taken to walking everywhere in hopes of getting rid of her new fairy. In doing so, she becomes late for everything. Soon Charlie's racking up demerits at school and desperately trying to work them off. So she's performing community service for hours after school, does her homework, and gets very little sleep. She seems to be getting nowhere until one day, her BFF has an idea. She needs to talk to her arch enemy's parents - who are experts in fairies. Now armed with information, she's determined more than ever to ditch her fairy.

Chock full of humor, this book lets your imagination run wild. I even want to move there, just to see what my personal fairy would be. Very clever and completely different.
