Monday Matinee: Friday Night Lights

Friday Night Lights:

Ok, So I heard everyone on Twitter talking about how much they loved this show. My husband and I started a while back and then stopped watching it. I can't remember why. But we were looking for something to binge watch and we started it again....And fell in love.

For several reasons. Here are mine:
1. Tami Taylor: Smart, full of advice, helped so many teens, confident, sweet, strong, a partner, and gorgeous.

2. Tim Riggins: he made terrible choices, had a big heart, and let's face it- was easy on the eyes
3. Football Games: pure fun
4. Coach Taylor: used football to shape players, helped one girl find her dreams on a football field, that ending!
5. So many great moments that made me smile or tear up!

BUT I did have a few problems with it:
1. The timeline - 33, 7, Lila, and Tyra were all seniors that first season. And then they weren't.
2. The plot holes - so many things happened that didn't have consequences or that came out of nowhere

Monday Matinee: Love, Rosie

Alex and Rosie have been best friends for ages -and at one time or another, both of them have thought of something more. But at the time something happened - everything goes wrong. Their relationship goes down a spiral.

Half truths and miscommunication make their relationship always one step out of reach. Could they really be made for each other or just best friends for life?

Based off a book by Cecelia Ahern (same title) that  I read years ago and Loved. Since it was years ago, I don't remember all the details except for the main story - but the movie seemed to follow along pretty well.

Lily Collins as Rosie was fantastic - I really liked her in this role.

It look me ages to figure out Sam Claflin (I confess I had to resort to IMDB) because he looked so familiar. He did a great job too.

I love how they were friends for so long. This movie made me smile, laugh, and shed a few tears. Well worth watching.

Monday Matinee: Bing Crosby Rediscovered

I didn't know much about Bing Crosby with the exception of the movie White Christmas, which I watched a lot as a kid (especially in July when it was really hot). I was happy to learn a few more things about him and I learned a lot.

1. He was HUGE in Radio
2. He helped out females who needed a boost in their career (for example Judy Garland and Rosemary Clooney after an unsuccessful suicide attempt and an emotional breakdown)
3. He won Best Actor Oscar in 1954  for his role as a Catholic priest in Going My Way
4. He wanted to start recording his radio show instead of live shows, so he put money behind the technology and helped it succeed.
5. He was named the person who did the most for GI morale in WWII 
6. He and Bob Hope did tons of movies together
6. He had great comedic timing, which worked out well for his movies
7. He sang in a variety of musical genres
8. He demanded that Louis Armstrong be also given top billing for their movie together in 1936
9. White Christmas remains the best-selling single of all time
10. He died after playing a round of golf from a heart attack - and he played well.

After viewing this documentary, I'm going to watch more of his movies and listen to more of his songs. I liked the clips of performances and the interviews with people from his life. It was a fascinating piece to watch. 

Monday Matinee: The Avengers

After watching Iron Man and the rest of the super-hero movies, I was excited to see The Avengers. I watched in on Saturday afternoon and couldn't have been happier.

The action was great - lots of fighting, blowing things up, and or course the best part the Hulk.

The super effects were cool

The villain was creepy.  He was oily, smug, and irritating.

They came together as a team...eventually and after they almost killed each other

The humor was perfection - there was great tension between Tony Stark and well, everyone, but especially with Captain America.

The one criticism I have: I didn't know anything about Hawkeye (including his name). I would have liked some more information about him and his character.

Ironman is still my favorite of the Avengers, he's hard to beat.

Plus all the super heroes had an equal amount of screen time, which seems like it would be really hard to do.

I swear I saw Blake Griffin in the Kneel scene. Anyone else see that?

I liked that the actress from Growing Pains had a small role, I recognized her almost immediately.

There are 2 moments to see after the movie. I only saw the first as I was unaware of the second.

Monday Matinee: Larry Crowne

I enjoyed this movie - I feel like both critics and users didn't, but I liked it.

I love Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. He was quirky, funny, and charmingly clueless. She was smart, sassy, and needed someone to make her laugh.


I liked that she was a professor. I liked that he went back to school

I loved the bike scenes


George Takei was funny


and so was Gugu Mbatha-Raw


I didn't like:
She was married and I know that was explained....but still.
