Movie Matinee: The Post

The Washington Post was a family run paper, looking to make a bigger name for itself. When Katharine Graham's father died, he left the paper to her husband. She only took over when he committed suicide. It wasn't supposed to be forever - or even a significant amount of time. But then the New York Times ran an expose on the cover-up about the Vietnam War. And everything changed. They had choices to make...

My Thoughts:
I really like the movie.
It was a slow start, but picked up at the end
I loved the newspaper mechanics part
The acting was wonderful, what else would you expect?
I loved learning more about this era
I really liked the powerful part at the end.
The idea of friendship and newspapers was very interesting.
And of course the ending was funny.

I admit I was a little disappointed that it wasn't more of a feminist movie, that the determination of Katharine came only at the end. But it does make me want to read more about her, because I suspect there is more to the story.

Monday Matinee: Larry Crowne

I enjoyed this movie - I feel like both critics and users didn't, but I liked it.

I love Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. He was quirky, funny, and charmingly clueless. She was smart, sassy, and needed someone to make her laugh.


I liked that she was a professor. I liked that he went back to school

I loved the bike scenes


George Takei was funny


and so was Gugu Mbatha-Raw


I didn't like:
She was married and I know that was explained....but still.

Trailer Thursday: Larry Crown

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Tom Hanks and Julia Roberts. This looks super cute - funny - and sweet. I love the ending of the trailer!

Thoughts?

Over the weekend, I saw Angels and Demons. I liked the movie. It was different than the Da Vinci Code, but perhaps a little better.
It was funny, serious, and action oriented all at the same time with a double twist at the end that I had forgotten about since reading the book.
Things I really liked: the art as clues, the hidden chapel, and all the tunnels from the Vatican City. Plus the amazing job the crew did to make it LOOK like they filmed in Vatican City.
I REALLY liked: The Vatican archives - how cool would it be to explore in there for a few weeks.
Things I didn't like: The security at the Vatican - very lax. plus - the destruction of such an old and amazing document.
Overall: a good movie - something I would watch again.
