Graphic Novel Review: Shakti

Shakti's used to movie and being the new kid at school - but there's something strange about this school. The mean girls have taken control. Shakti knows she has to do something, but she's not allowed to do magic. 

Shakti creates a friend group out of the kids the mean girls bully. But she wants to do more. She talks to her moms about magic. But there are two sides to magic - love and hate. For Shakti the line between love and hate is thin. Can she stop the mean girls without putting the world in danger? 

My Thoughts: I really enjoyed this graphic novel. I love how Shakti made new friends out of the other kids who were having trouble with the mean girls. I love how her moms talked about magic. I loved the double magic entities of love and chaos. A great graphic novel for this time of the year!

A few more Halloween picture books to share:

What do you love about Halloween?  I'm looking forward to sharing this book during our storytime. 

An interactive picture book about Halloween fun. There are so many problems and the Boo Crew can help get the party back on track. Also looking forward to reading this one during our storytime.

A witch has a plan to make mischief on Halloween night - can the group of friends save the day? They don't want monsters running around after Halloween. This is a fun addition to the series. 

The Villains are here to play. Would you want to hang out with the Disney villains? Readers will love this one. 

Frog soup is a witch's favorite treat - and this witch is filming a cooking show. Everything goes well until it's time to add the frogs. It's hard capturing a frog - really hard. This is going to a great read-aloud. It's very funny. The ending is fantastic.  I can't wait to read this one at our storytime too!

Board Books: Halloween

I'm chatting about Halloween Board Books today:

Lots of vocabulary in this spooky book (Although I'm surprised chocolate isn't in here.). I like how the book's divided up into themes of Halloween. There's also a mixture of illustrations and pictures. 

A cute touch and feel story about getting spooked by your friends on their way to a party. 

A little bit of opposites here in sharing of costumes while Carrot decides what to be for Halloween. This series is always fun. 

Five friends go out Trick or Treating and show off their costumes. I love how the actions after they visit houses connects to their costumes. What a fun book to introduce readers to Trick or Treating.

Picture Book Review: Pets

A few picture books about pets.

The library fish loves storytime and seeing everyone in the library read. But she can't read, so she decides to teach herself. 

Reading is a fundamental skill. I love the moment when Fish declares herself a Reader. And the ending is adorable. A lovely bookish book for all bookworms. 

Dog is living in the moment - and doing a great job of it.

This book is funny and charming - plus it has a great message. I love the mindfulness of the story. I love the endnotes with more information. There's a lot to talk about with this book. Dog lovers will enjoy it.

Cat loves exploring and being curious!

This book is also adorable - lots of emotions and trying different things. Again with the endnotes and vocabulary in this book. Perfect for cat lovers!
