Mysterious Saturday Review: Mark of the Midnight Manzilla

 * Book 11 in the Pink Carnation series *
Sally Fitzhugh isn't interesting the parties of the season until she wanders into a garden on a dare and meets Duke of Belliston. The man's rarely scene and rumors swirl around him.  They say he's a vampire. Sally knows this to be utter nonsense, but she can't help become fascinated with him.

She tags along with him to a midnight meeting during a ball, only to discover a girl murdered in the gardens. It's clear to Sally that someone is setting him up - especially since the girl looks to have died from a vampire bite.

Sally's hot on the trail, determined to figure out who's behind the murder and why they set up the Duke.
My Thoughts: I love this series, and was so happy to have this extra novel. I love how the people of society felt the dangers of vampires because they were fascinated with a book: The Convent of Orsino.  (The book written by none other than Miss Gwen). I enjoyed Sally's determination not to let anything else happen to the Duke. A great addition to the series filled with romantic moments, action, danger, and a strong heroine.  On one hand, I do not want the series to end, but on the other, I'm curious to see how it all fits together - not to mention how the modern day story will end.

Review: Night School

In light of the truth behind their family history, twins Sunny and Rayne are whisked away from the fae side of the family. They’re relocated to the Swiss Alps to a vampire training facility Riverdale Academy.

Rayne, believing she’s the only vampire slayer, receives a rude awakening. She also has a run in with the Alpha slayers – the school’s slayers. They’re hoping to become recruited into Night School. Rayne has a particularly hard time fitting in as she’s a vampire and a slayer. Without the synthetic blood, she grows weaker and weaker.

Sunny goes from crying her eyes out because she can’t communicate with her soul mate Magnus to behaving erratically. Rayne knows that something’s going on with her twin and she’s determined to save her from becoming a fairy princess instead of the regular life that Sunny longs to live

My Thoughts: Rayne’s narrates Night School, the 5th book in the vampire series, complete with snarky dialogue, pop culture references, romance, sisterly drama and protection, action, danger, and tons of fun.

Review: Twice Bitten

Merit and her Master vampire have a love-hate relationship. Merit isn't sure how to evolve from the relationship and she's not sure she wants to try. However, something more important catches the vampire community - the arrival of the werewolves for a meeting about their future.

The Alpha werewolf extends the hand of interest to Ethan Sullivan and Merit. They attend a meeting of the werewolf clan heads - only to find tempers ranging and the night end with disaster.

Now Ethan and Merit acts as guards for the Alpha while trying to untangle the attempted murder as well as figuring out the future for the werewolves and thus the paranormal community. In a previous war, the werewolves let the vampire take on the humans in war. Now that the world might be on the brink of war once again, will the werewolves stay and fight or will they disappear once again.

With tensions at a boiling point, Merit's having issues finding an outlet from work. Work is crazy. Her love life a disaster. She's in a fight with her best friend. Will all these issues add up to Merit doing something reckless and endangering herself?

My Thoughts: A adult novel from a crossover author (YA debut was Firespell) and the third in this series that's so hard to put down. There's so many things I love about this series, but mostly it's the relationships: Merit and her relationship with Sullivan - mostly the snark and verbal sparring and their tension/ Merit and Mallory's relationship / Merit and the world.
