Graphic Novel Review: Girl Taking Over

Lois Lane has a plan to take over the world -starting with her summer internship at CatCo. But as soon as she arrives, she finds Cat fired from her own company and her internship has become a gofer. Not to mention she's living with her ex-best friend. 

When she uncovers a scoop, her new boss won't let her publish it. So, she publishes it herself, creating her own site. At least here, she has her own voice and she's ready to shout.

My Thoughts: I loved this graphic novel - about friendship, becoming confident in yourself, and finding your voice. I love how life didn't go according to Lois's plan - but that she made it work in her favor. I would like a sequel please!

Picture Book Review

The Science Behind series features
Superman's Flight, Superman's Sight, Superman's Speed, Batman's Ground Vehicles, Batman's Uniform, Batman's Flying Machines, and Batman's Tools

These books are super fun, with short chapters, lots of pictures, fun facts, and a glossary they tackle  questions on kids' minds and relate them to the real work. Perfect for learning about science and engineering, these books will be a hit. 

While they are technically, nonfiction, I'm placing them in our favorites Superhero bin because I think they will circulate more there.

I only hope they make more in the series with Wonder Woman, Batgirl, and more.

Graphic Novel Review: Study Hall of Justice

Bruce Wayne just started a new school and he's pretty sure there's something strange going on there. He's determined to figure it out. But he can't do it alone.

Then he realize that both Clark and Diana could help. The three of them aren't friends - exactly. But they have the same ideas and they too want to uncover the truth.

My Thoughts: This one is aimed at younger readers, mostly tweens. I really liked the first installment of this series. I like how the three characters came together and each of them have their strengths. I like how Bruce tried to become the mastermind, but several of his plots failed. The art was cool - and mixed up with sketches, journal entries, and ideas. Looking forward to more in this series.

Review: Lois Lane Fallout

From a military family, Lois Lane's moved schools several times - and not always because of her father's jobs. Sometimes Lois has problems fitting in after she opens her mouth. She vows her time in Metropolis is going to be different.

But then she overhears a conversation where a girl complains about bullies (the warheads) to the principal. Right away, Lois takes a stand and finds herself in the cross hairs.  More importantly, she also finds herself a job at a newspaper.

She starts investigate the warheads, who do everything in a pack and have the power to mess with people's minds. Lois needs to figure out how they video game they play gives them power. She's not about to go down without a fight, but the next mind they control could be Lois's.

My Thoughts: I really enjoyed this book.

I liked Lois for her brains, her determination, her loyalty, and her ability to stand her ground. I liked watching her in action, trying to uncover the dirt for her story and to help her friend. I liked watching her navigate the waters of her new school and finding friends, especially those also on the newspaper.

I thought the video game/mind controlling aspect of the book was interesting (although it took me a while to understand the process.) I did like the video game within the video game - and how Lois worked with her friends, especially that friend. 

I wasn't a huge fan of Lois's father - he didn't seem to trust her at all. But neither did he want her in harm's way. It's possible that I will like him more in the next books.
