Top Ten Tuesday: Sequels

 This week's topic is all about books we wish has a sequel. There's nothing like spending more time with favorite characters and getting to know new characters in the same world.

Straight Sequels:

I heard a rumor, if this does well, more could be coming. Fingers Crossed!

I had a hard time saying Goodbye to these Characters - wouldn't find a companion novel

So many of these DC origin story graphic novels only have one volume. But I would like more books! 

Books That Are Sequels That Need More:

 

There were still some questions left unanswered. I want more.

On a related note, I'm still dying for more Heist Society Books by this author too

This family is fantastic! 

Did the third book ever get published? I can't find it!

Review: Three Keys

Mia is back and even though her life is better- it's still hard. While the hotel belongs to them now, business is up and then down. Not all the investors are happy. Some might want their money back. Sixth grade isn't like fifth grade. Mia's teacher isn't a kindred spirit; she's a stickler for rules. 

Several of the kids in Mia's class are worried about the immigration law that's proposed. If it passes, it will change everything. The more Mia talks to people, the more she learns about racism and the unfairness of the world. Can she smooth the road for herself, her family, and her friends? She's not sure, but she's going to try.

My Thoughts: I was so happy to spend more time with the characters from The Front Desk. I loved this sequel. It tackled really important issues that worry kids and adults alike. I had a hard time reading it, but at the same time, I couldn't put the book down. Mia is smart, determined, and brave. You can't help but root for her.

Review: Map from Here to There

Paige's getting ready for her senior year in high school. She had a great time in New York City during her screenwriting course. She met great people, enjoyed living in the city, and has lots of thoughts about her future. Now she's back home waiting for Max to return from Italy while she works at the movie theater.

As senior year moves on, Paige's anxiety worsens. She's struggling to make the huge decision about college - knowing that she's talking about the rest of her life. When Max talks about applying to colleges in the same city, she freaks out. She doesn't want to be responsible for his future too.

As high school starts being about the last chances, Paige realizes that she wants everything to stay the same. She's not ready to say goodbye. She's not ready to make the big choices. Her worries and anxiety put strains on her relationships. Can she stop overthinking ever decision and start living in the moment?

My Thoughts: Another great read from Emery Lord. I was so happy to have more about these characters. I loved spending more time with these characters. I loved the writing. There were so many sentences that I re-read because they struck a chord with me. I felt terrible for Paige as she attempted to deal with her anxiety. I wanted to hug her and tell her everything was going to be ok. I loved her moments in the theater and her love for screenwriting. Big moments happen during senior year of high school and they capture big emotions.

Library Recommendation: Grab this one for your school and public libraries - especially for the moments about college. 

Top Ten Tuesday: Sequels

This week's topic is all about sequels. 

You know that feeling when you finish a book and you don't want it to end, you just need more from the characters? Yeah, these are Those Books!

I do tend to read a lot of series books...so this might be hard. 
So sequel or companion novel.

Tween Tuesday Review: VIP Battle of the Bands

 * Book 2 in the VIP series *

Mac is still living her dream and touring with her favorite band. Perfect Storm is on the rise and loving their time. They're recording some new music, including a song about Mac.

That is until a new up and coming band steals the song and records it first. Now the boys of Perfect Storm are angry and want revenge.

Because both bands are with the same studio, they're sent out on tour together. Of course this starts an all out war between the two bands. And it looks like perfect storm is going down from their behavior and all their most private secrets share with the public. Someone is clearly sabotaging them. Can Mac figure it out before the band breaks up?

My Thoughts: I loved the sequel. I loved getting to know the guys more. I loved the comics. Again the art was cool and Mac became more confidence on page. I felt bad for the guys as their world came apart and their secrets were shared. I can't imagine the pressure these guys must be under and how awful it would be to have your secrets spilled out into the world. No one made great choices here. I liked the vlogger angle and how the played out. A fantastically fun sequel and I can't wait to read more about Mac and her friends and the guys.

Library Recommendation:  Highly recommended for tween collections, this one will fly off the shelves.

Review: Neverseen

 * Book 4 in the Keeper of the Lost Cities series *

With her world in upheaval, Sophie and her friends chose to leave home to finally figure out some answers. As they start to settle into their new lives, bigger problems come into light.

Their world is in grave danger and the secrets they uncover leave them questioning who to trust. One wrong step could bring the destruction of everything they know.

But Sophie and her friends aren't about to back down.

My Thoughts: God I LOVE this series. I love how Sophie and her friends taken matters into their own hands. I love how they stick together and leave no one behind. I like how each of them has their own set of talents and contributes to the cause. 

I love their out of the box thinking. And the crazy plans they make that no one would ever really imagine working, but somehow they work.

I really like their new friends from the alternative school and how that school changed in during the book. 

I love the relationships, the plot twists, the danger, the action, and how one wrong move could change everything.

My mind reels at the betrayal! Plus that ending threw me for a loop, and I hope it all works out the way I think it might. I simply can't wait for the next book in the series.

Final Thoughts: If you're a fantasy fan, get these books immediately.

Review: See How They Run

* Book 2 in Embassy Row *

Grace's brother came to Embassy Row for a visiting, bringing along a school friend. Things get out of hand that night at a party when Spence kisses Grace.

Her brother's best friend and a boy Grace has grown close to, Alexei takes offense. Spence and Alexei get into a fight. Grace and Jamie break up the fight and head home. The next morning, Grace meets Alexei.

They come across a scene in the street, where a man washed up dead onto the shore. When they identify the body as Spence, Alexei becomes the main suspect.

Grace is sure he had nothing to do with it and vows to protect him. But there are bigger secrets here on Embassy Row - secrets someone wants to keep buried.

My Thoughts: I Loved this book - I tore through it, loving the twists and turns. I loved meeting Jamie and understanding more about his relationship with Grace. I felt bad about Spence, but I felt worse about Alexei and the treatment from his father. 

I liked learning more about the island's history and the caves. There was a National Treasure moment in there, which I loved. 

I love how Grace can count on her friends, even if they think she's making a terrible decision. She always has their support. 

I can't wait for the next book to see how this turns out! This is what the puppy and I thought of that cliff hanger ending - and we NEED the next book ASAP!

Final Thoughts: Run and grab this book, it's amazingly good. 

On my Hold List (109)

My Librarian friend Jess from I Read to Relax came up with a great idea.  It's to highlight the books on hold at the library. I usually have 20-40 items checked out at the library and another 20 items on hold. 

Right now, the library system is going through a change and you can not place items on hold for the next week. 

I'm not going to lie - it's rough for me. I place a hold at least three times a week. I like to place the hold when I hear about the book or when I know it's in the catalog. That way I don't forget to place a hold. I will be very happy next Monday when I can start adding books to my list.

Sequels: I read a LOT of series books.

All Dressed in White: I really enjoyed the first book and I'm eager to read this one. I've been a fan of MHC since the 7th grade. This one involves a missing bride.

See How They Run: I loved the first book and can't wait for more about Grace and her friends.

NYPD Red 4: The last one wasn't my favorite, but this series has me hooked
