Mini Holiday Movie Reviews (1)

I started watching Christmas movie in October.

Here are several mini holiday reviews

From Netflix:
This was super cute and funny
I Love Lacey Chabert
I didn't know the lead male. And IMO, he looked sickly. But he was funny.
I loved the Mean Girls nod and the nod to Hallmark movies.
Highly recommended

From Hallmark:
Best Friends
All the lies - these were pretty funny at times
I really enjoyed this one
Although the secondary storytime was a little annoying with all the tips for event planning. But I liked the secondary love story.
Recommended

This was a fun movie - although I take issue with the library portions. No one seems to know how to create a storytime and that wasn't the book they were reading. All the library parts were wrong. But I did enjoy the training and the fake friendship. And that ending!
Recommended

This was cute even though in the beginning, I kind of hated the guy.
Most of the details were glossed over here.
The scenery was lovely.
I didn't get why she never asked anyone if they knew her mother
I loved the comradery that formed between the folks at the inn.
I would love a spin-off from the pop star's perspective!
Recommended

A cross between Amazing Race and Christmas Trivia
I loved this one - from the Meet Cute til the ending
Highly Recommended

I watched this after viewing the first move again.
And it was good, but it wasn't as good.
I loved the moments between the brothers and seeing where they ended up.

Have you seen any of these? What did you think?

Movie Review: The Last Dance

I confess that I didn't know too much about Michael Jordan before watching this. I didn't start really watching basketball until my 20s. And then it was all about Paul Pierce and the Celtics.

I knew that he:
* Had been cut from his high school team
* Went to North Carolina
* Played for the Chicago Bulls
* Played with Scottie Pippen
* Won a bunch of games and several championships
* Wore Hanes (which wasn't even in the series)

I did not know that:
* He went 3rd in the overall draft
* Had a terrible relationship with the team management
* Scottie Pippen was so good and so underpaid
* The Michael Rules
* The Management broke up the team
* Other players on the team
* How MJ made up stories in his mind to fuel his fire
* How badly MJ needed to win all the time - no matter the cost

I really really enjoyed this series. I learned so much about basketball and the players, coaches, and management. Because I didn't know most of the stories, I was on edge for a lot of the series. A fantastic series to binge!

I do wish there had been a little bit more at the end of what happened to the key people. I know there was that snippet - but I wanted more.

Movie Review: Darkest Minds

I loved this book and was super excited to see it turned into a movie.

It's a been a long time since I've read the book, so I didn't notice all the differences. But I really liked this movie.

I'm sad that it didn't do well in the box office because I wanted to see more of the story.  I confess I loved the first two books but by the time the third one came out, I didn't get around to it. Then I forgot the plot. Seeing this move made me want to dive back into this world and read the final book. And so I will.

It followed the story as I remember.
It made me laugh and tear up, especially at the end.

And the villain was very good at being a jerk.

I ADORED Zu.
Chubs was great too.

Did I miss an author cameo?

Have you seen this movie yet?

Movie Review: Karate Kid

I recently watched the remake of the Karate Kid.

Differences from the original
namely the age of the characters - lower
the location - China
the teacher had his own issues
the teachers didn't fight

I found it funny and sweet at times
I loved Jackie Chan - he was funny yet showed off a serious side
I loved the dancing scenes

While I really loved paint the fence and wax on - wax off, I found the coat sequence interesting, I loved that it tied into Dre's family life too.

Overall, I'm glad I watched it.

Have you seen it? Did you like it?
