Often times when I read books, I know they're going to make my mouth water because their foodie books. But I wasn't expecting this one.

This book, which was delightful, made me crave cake. Mostly chocolate cake. But also coconut cake.

It's been a while since I posted one of these, but I do read a lot of books with food in them. And after getting several books about donuts at the library, I needed to make my own!

Romance Review: As Good as the First Time

* First Book in the Sugar Lake series * 

When Olivia gets the wind knocked out of her after she loses both her job and her boyfriend in the same day, she's more than happy to help out her aunt. She and her sister travel back to the place that once upon the time stole her heart. 

She grew up in Sugar Lake with her extended family, the bakery, and the boy next door. She discovers upon her return that not much has changed. The small town has changed but the bakery is still the same. Drea (Olivia's sister) has plans for improvement. Together both sisters help their aunt while gaining insight into their troubled relationship. Olivia works on figuring out her future while making peace with her past. Could her past be the key to her future?

My Thoughts: I really enjoyed this book. My mouth watered almost the entire time I was reading and I had a desperate urge to bake something. I enjoyed the second chance love story. I loved how Olivia had to go home and face her past in order to move forward with her future. I love how the sisters ended up, but it was hard reading them fight with each other in the beginning. I'm so looking forward to reading more about this small town and this family.

Frankie and her family run a B and B, she's responsible one day a week for baking cookies. I craved cookies while reading this one!

You know, the kind that are still warm and the chocolate is gooey in the middle...

Early this summer, I read two amazing books that put me in the mood for ice cream!

In Stay Sweet, Amelia runs an ice cream stand for the summer - until a wrench is thrown into her plans. 

In See You on a Starry Night, Juliet moves to a beach town where she befriends a girl whose family owns an ice cream shop. They enjoy mixing flavors.

I'm from Vermont, so I'm a Ben and Jerry's girl, but I don't mind trying new ice cream places!

Review: City Baker's Guide to City Living

Olivia Rawlings had a tiny mishap at her job in Boston. In order to escape the humiliation, she flees to Vermont and her best friend. Her escape turns into something more permanent when a local inn needs a pastry chef.

But life in the country moves differently than life in the city. Small town charm has it's pitfalls too.Gossip spreads faster than wildfire. Since her father died, Olivia's been feeling alone in the world. Could coming to Vermont be just what she needed?

My Thoughts: I really liked this book. Like country life, this book was full of small details that made you read slowly. I really liked the small town charm and the people in it. I enjoyed the descriptions of food, especially of pastries. I adored the apple pie contest and the competition. Of course the dog was adorable. The McCracken family was my favorite part of the book with their relationships, their loudness, and their togetherness. The friendships, the way of life, the food, and the slow burn romance made this book.

Cover Thoughts: I LOVE this cover! It's the paperback cover  and it speaks of Vermont to me. It's perfect.

Lara Jean spends a lot of time trying to bake the perfect chocolate chip cookie. And it's no wonder that after reading the end of the trilogy that I'm craving chocolate chip cookies. I might have to whip up a batch, although they might not be as good as Lara Jean's....
