Review: Beg, Borrow, or Steal

* Book 3 in the When in Rome series *
Emily loves teaching, but this summer, she's letting loose. Her nemesis moves next door. He's working on renovating the house, but Emily makes it difficult. She's not thrilled about him moving back to town. She declares him persona non grata to the townsfolk. Jack's always charmed everyone, but he understands that the town is loyal to Emily. They run into each other all over town. The more time they spend together, the more their chemistry shows. Could they just need a little flip?
My Thoughts: I loved this book. I felt so bad for Emily for all that she had been through. I wanted to give her a giant hug. I loved the banter between Emily and Jack. I loved Jack's support about her writing career. I didn't want to put this book down. I'm so looking forward to the last book in this series.

Picture Book Review: A Mind of Her Own

Agatha Christie, the world-famous mystery writer, didn't always like writing. But she always liked mysteries and she always made-up stories. She struggled getting those ideas on paper. Years later, she tries her hand at writing a mystery novel. It's not easy but she persists.

This picture book biography is great for older elementary school readers - but I wonder if any of them have ever heard of Agatha Christie. I really enjoyed this book. I didn't know much about this author here. The illustrations are lovely. This would be a good picture book to share about creating mystery stories.

Review: The Next Great Jane

The Next Great Jane
Jane's biggest dream is to become an author - just like her hero Jane Austen. When a famous author comes to her small town in Maine, she hopes to gain insight on the secret of writing. Nothing ever happens in her town, but on the night of the author event everything changes.

She meets an annoying boy. A hurricane sweeps through town. And her mother appears.

Now Jane's life is turned upside down and she's worried it will stay that way. She wants life to return back to normal and has a few ideas up her sleeve on how to make that happen.
My Thoughts: I loved this book. I needed to read it as soon as I heard it was about a girl wanting to be the next Jane Austen. And it was everything I imagined. I loved the small town Maine setting - and the Maine comments/jokes. I loved the Jane Austen references; they made me smile. I loved the moments between Devon and Jane. I loved the secret to writing. A great story about writing, science, friendship, staying true to yourself, and family.
