Review: Rings of Fate

 

Aren takes care of her family and their bar, but she has dreams of traveling. She can't move forward with her life until her younger twin sisters are taken care of. When a stranger walks into her bar, everything changes. He's the Crown Prince and he's looking for a bride. 

Aren isn't interested for her, but for her sisters, she'll do anything. She creates the finest clothes for them. And they do catch someone's eye, just not the prince. They both fancy one of his traveling companions. Aren, does catch the eye of the prince, or rather her attitude does. She doesn't fawn all over him like most females. In fact, she makes her non-interest known. And for that, Prince Dietan can't stop thinking about her.

But he has a secret - one that could get him and anyone connected to him killed. He needs to learn about the Rings of Fate at all costs. Only this knowledge could stop the war brewing. Prince Dietan and Aren make a pact of convenience and set off on an adventure.

My Thoughts: I really enjoyed this one - and I'm already looking forward to the next book in series. I loved the relationship between Aren and her sisters; it was sweet. I loved the banter between Aren and the Prince. There were a lot of twists and turns here. I enjoyed the fake dating plot - which of course turns into something more. I enjoyed the kitchen moments. Overall, a fun fantasy read.

Review: Tear Down the Throne

 

* Book 2 in the Gargoyle Queen trilogy *

Gemma is still trying to understand the game of Queen Maeven Morricone of Morta - but she never imagines this. At the Summit for negotiations, Queen Mavel invokes an ancient tradition. Where her son, Leo, will take on three challenges in order to win Princess Gemma's hand. 

 Everyone is in an uproar over this challenge. If Leo fails any of the challenges, he could die. He doesn't seem to mind the challenge. Gemma doesn't want to be tied to the Mortans. 

She doesn't trust any of them including Leo. Maven always plays the long game - Gemma's desperate to figure out what her game is this time. And why she's playing with Gemma's future. 

 One wrong move at the Summit could spell trouble for her whole country.

 My Thoughts: I loved this one - for the politics, the spies, the food descriptions, the friendships, and the romance. Mave n is so terrible and yet part of me admires her. She's a great character. I felt horrible for Leo and for all that he has to endure in these trials. Lots of action, drama, and danger in this one. I can't wait to see how everything shakes out!

Mini Review: House of Sky and Breath

 

This one is a mini review because it's hard to talk about the book without spoilers.

There's a LOT that goes on in this book.

It does have the usual Sarah J Maas elements:

Friendship, banter, smart heroine, danger, action, lots of trouble, secrets, double crossing, traps, snark, romance, and that twist you never see coming.

That last twist blew my mind.

So first, I'm a huge fan of the author. I will read whatever she writes. But I know that I need a large chunk of time to read these books. Because once I start, I'm not going to want to stop. Her books are addicting! 

A must have series for your public library's adult fantasy collection.
