Picture Book Review: Astronaut Sister

Two sisters play astronauts and then they meet their favorite astronaut.

This is a charming story about sisters and their dreams of space. Their dreams don't fall far from the tree. I love the ending. There's so much imagination in these pages. What a lovely book to share, especially for big dreams and making them come true. 

Picture Book Review: Cooler Than Lemonade

Eva starts a lemonade stand - and her neighbor has the same idea. They each have come up with new ideas and new creations as they try to beat each other. 

This STEAM book connects the neighborhood with lemonade stands. I love how Eva and her brother and Jake problem solve to one up each other. But the ending is sweeter than a tall cool glass of lemonade on a hot day.

Picture Book Review: A Girl Can Build Anything

Girls like building and using tools - so they do. And it's awesome. 

This is a great book about empowering girls. There is not a lot of text, making this a great storytime reader for older kids. I love the ending! 

Picture Book Review: Smile,Sophia

Everyone wants Sophia to smile - but she's not interested in making other people happy. She has nothing to smile about...until she does.

I love the messages in this book. First and foremost about smiling when you want to - not because other people think you should smile. Secondly about knowing your passion and following it. Thirdly, about science and discovery. Lastly, about being yourself. A fantastic book with an amazing dedication. 

Library Recommendation: A must have book for your school and public libraries.

Picture Book Wednesday: If You Want to Knit Some Mittens

There are only 18 steps to knitting mittens - and this little girl will show you how.

This funny book is charming, gives step by step instructions, and is perfect for crafty readers (or readers who wish they were crafty.) The illustrations are lovely. This is a new favorite read!

Library Recommendation: Highly recommended for your picture book collection.

Picture Book Review: Charlotte the Scientist Finds a Cure

The animals of the forest are sick - and Charlotte's determined to help figure out the cause. But when the other scientists don't take her seriously, she begins to work on her own.

A second book in the Charlotte the Scientist series, which goes through the scientific method. Charlotte doesn't give him, she's determined to uncover the mystery. And she does. An empowering feminist stem story about a scientist who refused to back down.

A must have book for your school and public libraries. 

Picture Book Review: Dinosaur Expert

 

Kimmy loves dinosaurs. She knows Everything about them. So she's so happy for the class field trip to the Natural History Museum. But when one of the boys questions whether girls can be paleontologists, she becomes very quiet.

I Loved this STEM picture book - the message was great. I loved the information about dinosaurs, the teacher, and how Kimmy gained confidence.  I really liked the illustrations too. 

I just saw that this book is part of a series about a classroom and I'm eager to read more of these books.
