Picture Book Review: Bubble Gum Bison Needs a Bath

Bubble Gum Bison fell in the mud while playing. But when she goes home, her mom tells her that she needs a bath. She's so upset that she runs back to the playground. But that just makes everything worse.

My Thoughts: This was a silly story that will have readers laughing and reading this again and again.

* Apparently, this is the second book. The first book deals with the brother featured in this book.

Picture Book Wednesday: Gloria's Promise

Gloria is excited to audition for a summer spot at the American Ballet Theater School. Her audition doesn't go exactly has planned - she falls. But she picks herself back up and continues dancing. She's devastated but all hope is not lost.

I love the promise of hard work, determination, and persistence - this book has a great message. I adore the illustrations - they are from the same illustrator as Fancy Nancy. I poured over these illustrations. This book made me want to dance.

Picture Book Wednesday: Dog Books

I'm a librarian - but I'm a dog person. So, I gravitate towards dog books.

Here are a few new favorites:
Izzy makes all kinds of things, but when she tries to knit a sweater, nothing turns out the way she expects.  It's even better....

A story about failure and lots of trying and never giving up. A cozy heart-warming story.

Louis wants a dog, but his grandmother says there are enough dogs in the neighborhood. This leaves him wondering how many dogs there are - so he surveys the neighborhood to find out.

A cute story about dogs and their quirks, civil justice, and the creation of a community dog park. I love the message about getting involved and the dog storyline is heartwarming.

One little boy begs for a dog, but his parents don't believe he's responsible enough...until he proves them wrong. And a dog just finds him.

This one is sad but full of heart too. It's done in black and white sketches - except for the pop of red that's the dog's leash. It's a wonderful story - perfect for older kids.

And just a few favorite pictures of my pups over the years:
One of our first pictures together
Knightley on the ride home.

Cabot and Christmas lights

Emma looking sweet (She's usually camera shy).

Picture Book Review: Creature of Habit

What happens when someone new comes along and shakes up your routine?

This book was a fun read with a great message about how not sticking to a rigid schedule help make new discoveries.

Library Recommendation: Highly Recommended for your picture book collection - in both school and public libraries.

** If the author's name sounds familiar, it's because she writes awesome YA books.

Jim Panzee, our favorite #1 New York Times bestselling grumpy monkey, is feeling like quite the Scrooge this holiday season!

It's Christmas time in the jungle, and Jim just can't get into the holiday spirit. Then Norman offers Jim a festive green banana and Jim feels sick, making everything seem worse. All the other animals in the jungle are ready and eagerly awaiting Christmas, but Jim feels everything stinks. Norman tries to find the solution...and shows Jim that everything can be solved with a soothing cup of tea and time spent with a good friend.

My Thoughts: Poor Grumpy Monkey. Everything is so terrible. His friends are trying so hard to help him get into the Christmas spirit. I love how one little moment between him and Nathan changes everything. It's easy to be grumpy. It's lovely to have so many friends caring about you. This is a fun book to read - especially to yell. And you can talk about so many things - emotions, friendship, love, and celebrations. A winner of a story.
