Mini Review: Midnight Bites

Short Stories from the Morganville Vampire World.
The Good:
I loved going back to this world. This is one of my favorite vampire series.
I loved seeing favorite characters.
I loved the extra information from favorite and some not so favorite characters.
New stories
The relationships, the drama, and the horror of the town

The Bad:
I've never been a short story fan because I always want the stories to be longer. While this is nearly 500 pages, I still wanted more.

Final Thoughts: Perfect for fans of Morganville - get your hands on this one pronto!

Mini Review: Daylighters

Morganville Vampires Series #15 *

Claire and her friends have returned to Morganville but they find it changed since they left - and not for the better. Once again, they find themselves on the wrong side of things and must fight for survival and their futures.

My Thoughts: I'm sad that the series is over, but I love the ending. This series was brilliant - with flawed characters, 2 kick-butt heroines (1 super genius and 1 goth girl) plus 1 rock star in the making, and 1 smart-ass. I loved the vampires and hated the vampires. I loved that Rachel Caine could instill a love/hate relationships with most of the characters. I loved the humor, the banter, the romance, the friendship, and the loyalty. A fangtastic series that always made it to the top of my reading pile.

Review: Fall of Night

*Morganville Vampires Series #14*

Claire has the chance to study at MIT and leave Morganville behind. After what happened with Shane, she's ready for some time to herself to figure things out.

She's always wanted to go to MIT. She has the chance to work with a scientist for an independent project. The first time she meets her mentor, Claire tells her about an invention that she's been working on.

It has the ability to shock vampires and take away their abilities. Her new mentor is very interested in this project, but mentions that it needs to be kept a secret from the rest of the vampire world.  Her mentor has a vampire watching over her; Claire's shocked to see a vampire outside of Morganville. While part of her still craves the normal college experience, she can't risk it. Especially when others learn of her invention. Claire's not the only one interested in it's powers and those people will do anything to get their hands on it.
My Thoughts: Somehow I missed this one when it first came out. I love this vampire series; it's one of two that I still read. I loved the change in setting and the introduction of more characters. But I loved the way the main characters found themselves together again. There's always danger in their lives and they're good at watching each other's backs. I love the feel of family and togetherness - how your family is of your own choosing. I loved seeing the tiny glimpse into MIT and Claire's could be world if she never attended college in Morganville in the first place. What a very different life she would be leading. I love her intelligence and her determination to take care of herself (especially to show Shane she doesn't need rescuing). This book set up the next one perfectly, with a cliffhanger. I can't wait to see what happens next!

Review: Bitter Blood

 * Morganville Vampires Series 13 - with some SPOILERS from previous books *

Peace has come to Morganville; both the humans and the vampires are rising out of the ashes from the last fight. Joined together, they defeated their common enemy.

However, as the city begins to rebuild, it's clear that tensions are still high. Humans are under the impression that they will be on equal footing with the vampires. But it's not long before the vampires make it clear that's not going to be the case.

Amelie's acting strange and things are starting to get out of control. Even Myrnin believes it's time to run.

Claire and her friends attempt to change things by creating a very unique and very strange scenario for the town. At the moment, almost every in town, human and vampires alike, hate them. They're angry about the wedding and at Shane and Claire for standing by their friends. Everyone is in danger and it's only a matter of time before their luck runs out.

My Thoughts:  I adore this series! It's one of the few vampire books I still read and look forward to. I've always liked that vampires are not good, but dangerous creatures. This series has always stood out to me and it's one I constantly hand out to both teen and adult patrons at the library looking for vampire books.
This installment of the series goes further than ever with the multiple perspectives, which I have mixed feelings about. There are times when I love it and I'm happy to see what's going on in the other character's heads. But there are times when I miss the tale being told from only Claire's perspective. I know this series is coming to an end and it seems like the emotional tension, drama, action, and danger is at an all time high. Combined, these elements make this book almost impossible to put down.
That ending?  HOLY CLIFFHANGER ENDING!!!! How is that possible? Gah! Now I need Fall of Night ASAP! I have no idea where this series is headed anymore, but that's all part of the fun!

Cover Thoughts: I like it, especially the woods behind Claire.

Review: Black Dawn

 * the 12th book in the series*

Clare and her friends know that time is running out for Morganville. Instead of fighting the vampires that rule the town, this time they're fighting WITH the vampires. It's not a fight anyone thinks they can win.

But Claire and her friends have beaten the odds before and they're not going down without a fight.

The draugs need water to life. If they poison the water, it's possible they might have a chance. However, shutting off the water's going to be a battle in itself. With a few weapons, including a flamethrower that Shane loves, they decide to risk it.

Not everyone comes back. Will the fight for Morganville change the town and it's inhabitants forever? Will there be a town after the war? Most importantly, will Claire's luck hold or will it finally run out?

My Thoughts: I adore this series. I like how this series changes perspectives. I enjoy reading from everyone's point of view. I like how the vampires and the humans comes together to fight the new enemy and how that causes changes in everyone's relationship/pecking order. I liked the struggles within the relationships as Claire and Shane and Eve and Michael figured things out. I can't wait to see where the next book will go.
