Picture Book Wednesday: The Girl Who Heard Music

On Rapa Nui, there was a little girl who loved music. She learned to play the piano but had to leave the island to grow into the musician she was born to be. While spending time at home, she noticed that the environment was ruining her home. She worked to make a difference on the island.

My Thoughts: This book is a great STEAM picture book. The first part of the book is all about music and the second part is all about cleaning up the environment. The pictures are lovely. This is a great picture book biography for your collection. The afterword talks about the island and the environment.

Picture Book Review: Dinosaur Lady

50617383. sx318

A picture book biography of Mary Anning - the first female paleontologist. In fact, her discoveries helped to create the field of paleontology.

I really loved learning about Mary Anning - a woman I had never heard of prior to this book. Women were not allowed to speak or even attend the scientific lectures. But her discoveries changed the world. She was curious, determined, and very impressive.

Library Recommendation: A must have book for school and public libraries.

Picture Book Review: Shark Lady

Eugenie Clark became fascinated with sharks at the age of 9. She wanted to study them and prove they weren't as dangerous as everyone thought.
A nonfiction picture book about a daring woman, perfect for feminist reading. I love that she didn't take no for an answer. I love that she searched out knowledge. Great for STEAM reading. Loved the illustrations.

A fantastic book to pour over and share with others.
