Review: Mother Daughter Book Camp

* Book 7 in the Mother Daughter Book Club Series *

The summer before college Emma, Jess, Megan, Becca, and Cassidy become counselors at Camp Lovejoy in the wilds of New Hampshire. Besides looking after their darlings, they each have an activity to teach.

To combat the homesickness of the younger girls, the five friends decide to hold a book club at camp - reading Understood Betsy. Of course camp wouldn't be the same without hijinks and a little mayhem. 

My Thoughts: I'm glad this series came back for one more final book because I adore these characters (dare I hope for a spin-off series next?).  I loved learning more about the five friends' plans for the future. I liked the younger girls adjusting to camp. I love how the five adjusted along with the younger girls as it was their first time too. I really loved this series and the ending was fantastic.

This week's topic is  Top Ten Best Sequels Ever . I read a lot of series books and I admit that it's hard for me to take them as separate books - but I will try. I can't not choose my favorite Harry Potter book - because I love them all, but one for sure would be on the list.

Review: Wish You were Eyre

 *6th and final book in the Mother-Daughter Book Club series*

Megan's so excited for this year; she's finally going to Paris. Her grandmother's taking her for Spring Break, which just happens to coincide with fashion week.

Unfortunately, she has a year to get through first. Her grandmother's also decided that her family should host a student from France. Sophie, who's not interested in  hanging out with Megan or her friends, has been taking up Megan's mother and her grandmother's time, leaving Megan feeling left out.

Luckily, she has her best friends to comfort her. Unfortunately, they're all having troubles of their own. Jess has trouble with a substitute teacher and her academic future might be in jeopardy. Emma and her boyfriend are running Mrs Wong's campaign for mayor. Emma's unhappy that her boyfriend's paying so much attention to Sophie. Cassidy's busy hoping her team will make the hockey national hockey championship. Becca's hoping to find a boy who likes her. She's tired of not having a boyfriend. Will these friends be able to sort of their issues and achieve their dreams?

My Thoughts: I thought the last book was the final book, so I was happy to be wrong. I really like this series. I was happy to reunite with my favorite book club for a final chapter. This time, the club reads Jane Eyre (not one of my favorites). I love how the girls have grown, matured, and changed over the years. However there are areas where they remain the same. They still pull pranks. They still have a hard time letting others into their clique. They still support each other in times of trouble. I enjoyed reading about old friends who popped into the story ranging from boys to enemies, to their book club friends.  I loved reading about Megan and her time in Paris. I loved that she started her blog again and how she described all the fashion. Everything worked out for the girls and as much as I want to know where they end up in 15 years, I love the ending!

Christmas Review: Home for the Holidays

It's winter in Concord, MA and it's not turning out like anyone expects.

Cassidy discovers that her family might be moving back to California. She's finally adjusted and loves her life in New England.

Becca's father has lost his job. They family's struggling, but doesn't want their friends to find out. Their family is still going on the cruise with Megan's family.

Megan's boyfriend broke up with her...in an e-mail. She's feeling horrible about herself. She boosts up her confidence with a boy on the cruise.

Jess was supposed to go to Switzerland for the winter holidays, but when she breaks her leg sledding, she's forced to hang out with her family. Her family's going to New Hampshire for the holidays.

Emma's invited to spend the holidays with Jess. Jess is moping and soon the two of them are fighting.

To top off all the arguments, their secret santa gifts have all been flops. Will their friendships survive the holidays?

My Thoughts: I'm sad this is the last book of the series, though once again, I'm happy the series ending with a Christmas story. I loved reading about the friendship, the drama, and the romance with these characters almost as much as I loved reading about the books they've been reading. A fabulous series! I've never read the Betsey-Tacy books, but after reading this, I think it's a series I'll be reading next year.

Reivew: Pies and Prejudice

The girls from the book club enter high school this year. Everything changes when Emma's family announces they're moving to England for the year. Using this news as a jumping-off point, the book club decides to read PRIDE AND PREJUDICE and keep in touch with Emma and her mother via video chats.

Emma and her family switch houses with someone for the year. At first, she doesn't want to leave, but when she arrives in England, she learns to love it. However, she doesn't love the people. One boy follows her around all the time. He's a mini Mr. Collins and Emma can't stand him. She's also not fond of Annabelle, who makes her life miserable both in England and also back home. Unbeknownst to her, her friends start up a pie business to purchase a plane ticket so she can visit during school vacation.

Jess can't believe her best friend and her crush are both deserting her this year. She's adjusted to life at boarding school since last year. Now, everyone's figuring out their future career, but Jess can't narrow down a choice. Not knowing what she wants to do with her life deeply disturbs her.

Cassidy makes a girl's league hockey team, which means lots of practices and spending lots of time with her new stepfather. She also decides to create a hockey team for girls in the local area. Calling it Chicks with Sticks, her former teacher, Mrs. Bergson, helps her get the program started. But Mrs. Bergson calls in a favor of her own. Snooty Tristan, the boy living in Emma's house, is an ice dancer. He needs a training partner to continue his work towards an exclusive competition. Soon, Cassidy's trying out figure skating and doing her best to live up to his high expectations.

Meghan starts up a fashion blog - complete with fashion don'ts. She writes the snarky insults in a Jane Austen-type tone. At first, the blog remains anonymous, but after a queen bee spills the beans, everyone is up in arms, including friends, teachers, and parents.

My Thoughts: As the group reads PRIDE AND PREJUDICE and learns all about Jane Austen, changes start occurring as the girls form crushes, hopes, and dreams - all while dealing with drama and friendship dilemmas. I'm such a Jane Austen freak, that I was so excited the club read this book. I love this charming series and hope the book club continues throughout high school.
