Christmas Picture Books Reviews: (2)

The start of Christmas Picture Books. I adore Christmas picture books.
Here are a few new favorites:

I didn't know anything about the history of the plant, so this was interesting. I didn't know there were so many variations of the flower.

Jake has a LONG list of items he'd like from Santa. He asks for Santa to write back, when Santa writes back, Jake is surprised. Santa doesn't like his letters or his attitude.

This is a funny book about Christmas, greed, and kindness. The ending is perfect.

The mice spy a Christmas cookie on the table. They have to be sneaky and not wake the cat. There are so many snacks on the table.

Lots of food, a little danger, and a sweet ending. The treats will make readers hungry!

A man is gifted a partridge in a pear tree from his true love who is away at Christmas. But as the gifts kept coming, the house seemed too small. But when they leave the house, the chaos starts.

This was such a funny book! I loved this different take on the classic song.

The newest Miss Maple book, and possibly the last book, is stolen just before the very first reading. No one wanted this book to be the last one.

This is the 7th book in this series and it's still charming. Everyone is a suspect in this clever mystery.

A clever spin on the classic The Night Before Christmas. Perfect for any Taylor fan - young or old.

Christmas Picture Book Reviews (1)

Here are a few picture books that either showed up late at the library last year

Like the 12 days of Christmas song - but for Swifties.

This is adorable! I love it. It makes the perfect gift.

Hugo Mouse isn't feeling the Christmas spirit. He's not the only one. William's family can't make their flight because of a snow storm. The tree is undecorated, and the day will be lonely. But Hugo Mouse has an idea.

This is a charming story about friendship and finding the Christmas spirit

Grumpy Monkey doesn't feel like celebrating. Everything around his is terrible. Will he ever find the Christmas spirit?

This is a great book for exploring feelings and why some people see everything in a negative light. It does end positivity (and maybe a little unrealistically). But it's a smart book.

Picture Book Wednesday: Christmas in July

Just a few Christmas books from last year's library haul

Bunny wants the perfect tree - so she asks her friends for their input. Each friend has a different idea of what makes the perfect tree.

Bunny finds the perfect tree and it's magical. A sweet story about friendship, perfection, and the environment.

Strum and Drum are on a quest. But not everyone is happy with them.

This is a fun story - with a giant twist at the end that made me want to read the book again immediately.

An owl is stuck in the tree that's delivered to Rockerfeller Center - and needs help to get better.

This was an adorable story - and based on true events.  It's sweet to imagine animals sharing stories of Christmas.

When an elf is in trouble - thinking about her future, she turns to Santa Claus. But discovers the truth about Mrs. Claus by accident.

I loved this one - from the message about tradition to doing what you love. I loved the author's note that talks about her inspiration for the story.

Ty is so happy that it snowed. He wants to go to the North Pole - so everyone bundles up.  But will he see Santa?

A sweet imaginative story about the excitement of Christmas and all the possibilities! I love this series - and the fun illustrations that are half real and half drawings.

A sweet story sharing the bookish Christmas Eve tradition from Iceland.

Who wouldn't want to spend the night reading with cozy blankets and hot chocolate? I love this idea; it's the perfect subject for a book. The illustrations are charming. I love all the bookish details. And the quote - "Reading is Magic when you have the right book" is perfection.

Picture Book Wednesday: Christmas Picture Books

We got a few (dozen) Christmas books in at the library.

Here are a few new favorites:

Santa likes the cookies at this house so much, he decides to stay. And his family comes along too.

It's a funny story about Christmas all year around, but also the magic of the holidays - not just the sweets and the presents. And the ending is very funny!

Fox is stealing all the Christmas decor in town - is he up to no good or does he have a plan?

A funny story about friendship and bringing people together - even if Fox goes about it in a strange way.

Holly loves Christmas - but her favorite part might be the Christmas tree. She's devastated to learn that the tree gets thrown out each year. Instead, she and her family come up with a new plan.

A nice way to mix Christmas with the environment and climate control.

Hedgehog is making gifts for all her friends - but she can't think of a gift good enough for bear. When she finally thinks of something - disaster strikes. What is she going to do?

A sweet story about friendship, making gifts, and being together with your favorite person. I loved this message.

The Gingerbread Man escaped from the pages of a book. It's up to the kids to trap him back inside the pages.

I do enjoy this series. And I love the bookish references in this addition. They are quite clever and fun. This one isn't exactly Christmas, but...

Murray doesn't understand Christmas - especially Santa Claus. What happens when they meet on Christmas night?

A funny story about a dog's view of Christmas.

A young girl says hello to each animal in the forest - making them feel special. When an accident destroys their home, the little girl cries to Beaver. Beaver spreads the word to the animals and they all come together to create a magical Christmas for their friend.

It's a sweet, slightly sad, story about friendship and helping each other when times are tough.

Picture Book Wednesday: Curtain Up!

Take a tour behind the curtains at the Royal Opera House with Figaro the Cat. (You can find him on every page.)

While this isn't strictly a Christmas book, this does showcase the Nutcracker performance. This is a super cute book - lots of information about the theater and all the work that goes into the performances. There's also a glossary for harder words and an encore for how to get creative yourself. This is a perfect book for older readers, especially for dance lovers.

Picture Book Wednesday: Christmas Picture Books

Just a few holiday picture books that I enjoyed:

A girl and her grandmother see the Nutcracker together. The grandmother is a former prima ballerina. The author is also a former prima ballerina. It's a lovely tradition to share between a grandmother and her granddaughter.  The artwork is lovely done by the Fancy Nancy artist.

The story of the nutcracker and a Black ballerina playing the role of Clara. Great message about practicing and support from her family - as well as the Nutcracker story.

Santa's sleigh won't start - and no one knows how to fix it. A funny STEAM story that celebrates problem solving and girl power.

The Wheels on the Bus Christmas edition - this fun story is perfect for storytime!

How does Santa's sleigh actually work? This STEAM book turns magic into the knowledge.

This board book is adorable from the rhyming words to the loving family (including the cat) to the amazing illustrations. I love this series.
