TV Review: The Diplomat

Keri Russell stars as the wife of a wife and husband political power team (of sorts). It's been her husband in the limelight with her behind the scenes. Now, the roles have switched. The President asks her to be an ambassador in England - but she prepped for a very different type of post.

I really liked it, but I did have some thoughts:

I hated her husband - I can't tell if I'm supposed actually root for them or not. But he's terrible.

I love how she only wants to wear suits - and black ones.

She's smart and determined.

I loved the scenery.

I hated the ending - it does end on a cliff hanger (Which is fine) but I wish there had been more answers. I'm just happy there is another season coming!

And it's quite a long book, but also fascinating. The format is one long interview with various stars, guest starts, cast and crew joining in.

Readers will:

Learn secrets from the show (casting was juicy)

The reasoning behind some of the choices

Get a glimpse at the behind the scenes

Want to watch the show all over again

Picture Book Wednesday: Biographies

Just a few picture book biographies that are new to my library:

Abby Wambach had courage, determination, and worked really hard for her victories. This book showcases the highs and lows of her career.

The author and illustrator was frustrated with the illustrations for his ducks, so he went out and bought some to study. From those studies, the illustrations grew better until his book about the ducklings was complete. A funny story that showcases hard work and patience.

Just before a big competition, Wei gets very nervous. Luckily, his mother gives him some great advice about skating for fun and not trying to win. 

* This isn't a direct biography, but the author note makes it very clear that this story is part of his past.

Jackie Chan did not have an easy childhood, this biography explains how his changed his life and became a martial artist for the film industry. 

A fascinating story of Lotte Reiniger and how she used animation for her stories - the details are really neat and could cross-over with the TikTok effect of stop motion.
