Christmas in July: Unicorn Christmas Books

It's Christmas in July here at YA Book Nerd.

Because of the pandemic, last year's Christmas book order at the library took longer to come in.  So I didn't get the chance to take them home and read them first like usual. And thus didn't get my picture book Christmas fix. But now I've gotten a chance to read them and wanted to share some of my favorites. Stay tuned all month long for new to me picture books.

It's time for some Unicorn Christmas Books

Christmas is looking bleak. Everyone's cranky and tired. Until someone magical appears. The Christmas unicorn helps put everyone's spirits back to rights.

If you're a unicorn lover, this book blend the North Pole activities with a special wish for Christmas.

With Christmas on the brink of being canceled - what can Little Unicorn do to help in the 10 minutes before bed?

A fun story about magic, Christmas wishes, and lending a hand.

The twelve days of Christmas for one little girl and her unicorn.

Delightful. This counting story shares traditions of Christmas with a unicorn twist.

Picture Book Review: Itty Bitty Kitty Corn

Kitty dreams of being a unicorn but her friends tease her. Kitty keeps pretending - until she meets a unicorn. Kitty is sad to meet the unicorn until the unicorn confesses a secret. They both see each other and become the best of friends.

A really sweet book about being seen - even if you can't be the create you'd most like to me. It's about celebrating differences and similarities. And it comes from a dynamite author and illustrator team!

Library Recommendation: Another must have picture book for your school and public libraries

Picture Book Wednesday: It's Okay to be a Unicorn

44280869. sx318

In a town of horses, someone is hiding their true identity...as a unicorn.

When the secret becomes too much, the truth comes out.

This is a great story with a sweet message about being yourself and that you matter. Not everyone can fit into the same boxes. The fun illustrations adds to the charm.

Library Recommendation: A must have book for school and public libraries.

Picture Book Review: Little Unicorn Books

Little Unicorn Books:

Little Unicorn Is AngryLittle Unicorn Is Sad
Little Unicorn Is ShyLittle Unicorn Is Scared

Each book portrays a different emotion. The unicorn mane's changes with their mood.

Each book contains breathing exercises to help sooth the emotion. Each one is just a little bit different. While this isn't a typical story, these books help make emotions normal and talk about how to understand them and how to control them.

First in a new series

This one was talked about all over BEA this year. And just look at the cover. I was so happy to get a copy. I saved it for vacation reading. I loved this book.  (I accidentally read a bunch of it while creating this post.) I love books with quests and sisters. Plus unicorns.  I love that Claire was able to follow her sister. I love that she was able to put her fear aside and gather her courage to go after her sister.

I can't wait to see what happens next.
