Picture Book Wednesday: Thankful Books

Just a few books to celebrate being thankful and a big family meal.

This story about growing the pumpkin for the pie builds upon itself.

The illustrations are lovely, and the book clearly explains how a pumpkin grows. The author's note talks about pumpkins, how bees are super important, how to cook pumpkin from the plant, and even shares a pie recipe.

Lola's family owns an apple orchard. Her family is busy making pies for their shop for Thanksgiving tables. Lola decides she can take care of the family dinner. She even has a plan - but each day, her parents need her help baking the pies. Will they ever have dinner?

I really loved this book - it's a little long so maybe better for older readers. I love how everyone pitched in to help. I loved the funny ending. The book has an author's note where the author talks about her experience being similar to Lola's experience. And there is an apple pie recipe to test.

Top Ten Tuesday: Thankful

This week's topic is all about why we are thankful for books!

I'm thankful for books because they help me relax and escape. Plus, they make me happy. Even if they do give me a book hangover sometimes!

I'm thankful to ALL the people it takes to create the book: from the author to the agent, publisher, editor, cover designer, marketing team. All the people that work on the book to make it happen - you rock.

I'm thankful for all the people who talk about books online - who share favorite books and add to my always growing TBR list.

Picture Book Review: Thanksgiving Books

While this isn't strictly a Thanksgiving book - as it does go through the seasons of the year, it has a lovely message about being thankful. Of course, I love the bit about being thankful for parents who read stories and the bookstore love. I love the art in this book - it's so creative. What a charming book.

Bright colors, diverse characters, and a great message make this book a winner. Words of thanks aren't always required - sometimes an action is better.

* These books were sent for review, and both make great additions to your library's collection.

What are you thankful for?

Happy Day for Giving Thanks

I know this holiday is different for so many people this year. Chatting with friends and family over Zoom instead of in person. I wish you all a safe and healthy Thanksgiving!

While many things are wrong and need fixing, I have so many things that I'm grateful for!

I'm spending the day with these cuties, counting all the goodness in my life and hoping to spread it in the world.

Top Ten Tuesday: Thankful

This year has been hard - for everyone.

I'm thankful for my health and the health of those I love.

I'm thankful for my family and friends. Even though we haven't seen each other much this year outside of the computer screens, I know they are there if I need to chat.

I'm thankful for my job - even if I've done things this year, I never thought I'd do. And there's a whole YouTube channel that shares it.

I'm thankful to my amazing co-workers Sara , Mary, and Kat. Without them, I wouldn't have gotten everything done.

I'm thankful for authors who are still able to write through these hard time. I've read so many amazing books this year.

I'm grateful for publishers who are still sharing their favorite books.

I'm thankful for all the puzzles, books, Hallmark movies, Netflix shows, and crafty projects that keep me occupied while staying inside.

I'm thankful for house projects - hopefully I will have a new bathroom to share with you soonish.

I'm thankful to my dogs who get me out of the house daily with walkies. And the park nearby where we've explored more this year than the 11 previous years.

And of course, I'm grateful for you, dear readers of this blog for taking the time to read it.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I hope the weather in the North East didn't mess up anyone's travels plans and you got where you were going all safe and sound. I hope that everyone has a wonderful holiday filled with great food, family, and friends. Hope that you also brought a good book along with you and get a little reading time in too!

I confess the pie is always my favorite part of the meal!
What's yours?

Top Ten Tuesday

Thankful: this week we're tackling the topic of Top Ten Books/Authors I'm Thankful For.  A great topic from The Broke and the Bookish

I have So many things I'm thankful for, but instead of naming names (because I don't want to forget someone), I'm going to be vague. I feel like a very lucky librarian/book blogger this year. So here's my list.

1. As a librarian, I'm thankful for all the authors who write fabulous books. I love having a list of books I want to read that's so long, I'm never going to be able to read them all.

2. As a librarian, I'm thankful that authors are writing amazing books that I can keep handing to teens. I love it when they come back for more

3. I'm thankful for the opportunity to talk with my favorite authors over social networking sites, so I can gush about their latest book to them - I feel like we're friends.

4. I'm thankful for the publishers who take the time to talk with me and send me material they think I might like to review or might like to purchase for the library.

5. I'm thankful for the authors who send me their books they know I want to read so I can gobble them up and rave about them to teens, other librarians, and anyone who will listen.

6. I'm thankful for all the books that wow me and make me super duper happy after reading them!

Have a safe and happy Holiday week!
