Review: Opposite of Innocent

Lily has a crush - and he's finally returning after two years away. Maybe he'll notice how much she's changed. She's grown; she's now 14. Luke isn't some random guy. She's over the moon when she learns he'll be staying with them for a bit. Could he be interested in her too?

My Thoughts: This novel is verse was hard to read because of the subject matter, but it's an important story. Luke isn't just your average crush. He's her father's best friend and twice her age. There's a thriller of a older man finding you attractive that gives you a rush as a teenager. 

This is a first love story that's icky.

Lily begins a relationship with Luke. He pressures her. She's naïve but looses her innocence and begins to understand what he friends have been telling her all along.  
I loved the ending.  It's a powerful story.

Library Recommendation: Grab this one for both public and school libraries - there are teen girls who will need this book.

A Mother's Day Book: The Hunchback of Neiman Marcus.

Holly's not sure what to think of life at the moment. She's just about to turn 50. Her daughter's getting ready to go off to college. She's not she how to talk to her husband at times. Plus her book deadline has come and gone. To make everything worse, she just started menopause. Are her best days behind her?

My Thoughts: I've read Sonya Sones YA novels and verse and was excited to see she had one for adults.  I really enjoyed it; it made me smile, it played with my heartstrings, and it made me curious as to what I hope my life with be when I turn 50. (Thankfully, I have 15 years to go, so I have some time for accomplishing things). A fun book about motherhood, just perfect for Mother's Day

Review: To Be Perfectly Honest

Colette's mother is a major movie star - thus, Colette never knows who her real friends are. Are they the people who hang out with her who want the perks of her life? Are they the people who hang out with her for a chance to meet her mother? Does anyone like the real Colette?

Colette's been burned one to many times by people. So, she's become an expert at lying. If you're always lying, you can't get hurt.

She thought she had a perfect summer planned in Paris, until her mother announces that Colette and her brother are required to join her on location in the middle of nowhere California.

Once their, her mother becomes absorbed in her movie and in her life. Collette's stuck hanging out with her brother - not that that's a bad thing most of the time.

Ever since she met Connor, she wants some alone time with him, not dates with her brother as the third wheel. Could he be the best part of her summer?

My Thoughts: I was so happy to have a new Sonya Sones book - I love them. I'm a big fan of novels in verse and tore through this one. I felt bad for Collette - for not knowing who to trust in her life, for not being able to be herself, and for trying make the best of her summer. I loved her brother. The moments between them were sweet and I loved the birthday bit. There were a few twists that threw me as I wasn't expecting them. I completely LOVE the ending!
