Picture Book Review: Nerdy Baby Dinosaur

The Nerdy Babies explore dinosaurs. 

This book has a great introduction and contains LOTS of knowledge - we learn about shapes, sizes, colors, and the evolution of dinosaurs. The illustrations are super cute. 

Library Recommendations: This book is great for kids interested in dinosaurs and is a must have book for school and public libraries.

* There's also a board book, but this review is for the picture book.

Board Books (8): Dinosuars

We just bought a bunch of new board books for our library.

I'll be talking about a few favorites over the next couple months

This week, it's all about dinosaurs and reptiles:

Baby Dinosaurs - a touch a feel book. It's a cute little book with different textures and dinosaurs.

Clever and funny. I like how this one asks questions of the readers. The last page has a look and find.

This stacked book compares dinosaurs to animals and objects like tents or a ladder on a fire truck. Lots of great information here. The last page has dinosaur bone statues.

A touch and feel book that contains lots of animal facts. I love the touch and feel, especially the frog's tongue.

This week is all about Nature: plants and animals

Another great informative board book from the Hello, World! Collection. I loved the ending when we all roared together like dinosaurs.

Snakes, Chameleon, lizards, crocodiles, and more!

All about Ocean life, animals, and more!

I'm not a fan of bugs, but I learned things from this book.

This one has much more information - lots of strange facts here

So much in this book - and the illustrations are nice too!

Smithsonian Coloring Books

 Looking for something to do during these cold winter months where we're not going out and about?

Coloring books could be your answer! 

The Smithsonian has two new coloring books. The illustrations are delicate, therefore these are best suited for teens or adults.

About the Book: Airplanes: A Smithsonian Coloring Book allows readers to soar through the skies with some of the most recognized and revered airplanes from the collection at the National Air and Space Museum. The thrilling artistry of John Pirtel vivifies the very first powered aircrafts of the 1900s, revolutionary bombers and jet fighters of the 20th century, supersonic passenger airliner, and many more.

 My Thoughts: I like how the planes are organized chronologically. You get a little history with your coloring. 

About the set up:

One page has the information (not too much detail) and the other page has the picture. 

And you know the information is great because it comes from experts at the Smithsonian.

This is the Polar Star plane and yes those are penguins you see in the picture.

Picture Book Review: What the Dinosaurs Did at School

When no one is looking, the dinosaurs get into massive trouble at school.

Another fun dinosaur book (sequel to What the Dinosaurs Did Last Night). I loved the photographs, they told the story. I loved how the dinosaurs created havoc wherever they went - like the library, the gym, the art room, and the cafeteria! Hilarious. Perfect for reading again and again while pouring over the pictures!

Picture Book Review: Barnum's Bones

A nonfiction picture book - perfect for dinosaur lovers.

Barnum's parents named him after a great man, hoping that he would do great things too.
Working as a paleontologist for the American Museum of Natural History, he had a knack for discovering bones - including the first remains of the T-Rex.

While this one is a longer picture book, it's great for older kids. Barnum's Bones captures the excitement of finding dinosaur bones - and their importance of understanding the past.
