Review: Writing Mr. Wrong

After her divorce, Gemma wrote a romance novel; no one wanted to publish it. She wrote another one featuring an asshole alpha. He's based off a guy she knew in high school who now plays professional hockey.

On the day of the book's publication, Gemma's on the local morning TV show. The host is a woman she went to high school with, and she brings out Mason Moretti. Gemma is stunned to see him and also embarrassed. Mason hasn't read the book, so he's flattered that she based her hero after him.

After their interview, people start talking about them. Mason's going through a rough patch in his career. He could use a boost of good publicity. He offers Gemma a deal where they fake date for good publicity for them both. After the moments in their past, Gemma's not sure she wants to open that door. But she can't help be tempted by it either.
My Thoughts: I really enjoyed this book. I love how Gemma and Mason had history from high school. Yes, Mason is kind of a jerk. But he has good intentions, he just needed to stop and think before he acted. I love that Mason was trying to become a better person, but really it was just become the right person for Gemma. I love how he influenced her writing. I loved how he talked about his troubles reading, but that didn't stop him from finding alternatives.

Middle Grade Review: On Thin Ice

The twins are having a rough time of it - Dexter is cut from the hockey team and Phoebe's ice-skating partner is injured. Dexter's pranks have gotten him in trouble one too many times with the coach. Phoebe's hoping to medal at an upcoming competition.

Their mom makes a deal with Dex: he will become Phoebe's new skating partner and in return, she will buy him the new hockey skates that he desires. Dexter isn't thrilled with the idea, but he agrees. Plus, figure skating might help his footwork when he gets back on the hockey team. Can they skate together without killing each other?
My Thoughts: I really enjoyed this book. I loved the sports moments. This book snuck in so many other moments: grief, friendship, romance, and family drama. The twins' father died recently and they're still processing their grief. They're also learning how to talk with their mother and ask for help. All of them are bottling up their emotions, but they do learn to let them out. There were a lot of growing moments here. I liked the dual POV between the siblings. The ending works well.

Romance Review: Wake Up Nat & Darcy

Darcy has been working at the TV network for three years. She's been putting in her dues and working her way up the ladder. It seems to have paid off. She's been asked to co-host a segment for the Olympics. As a former Hockey Olympian, she's excited to return. However, she's not too sure about her new co-host.

Nat, just cut from the Olympic team, isn't sure where to turn next. She's surprised to be offered a job hosting. She's not sure she can do it without murdering Darcy - the woman she loved and who broke her heart in college.

Can they host together without killing each other?

My Thoughts: I really loved this book: for the sports, for the banter, for the chemistry, and for all the fun. I love that Darcy and Nat had a relationship back in the college. I love how they had to work through their baggage. I felt bad that they had to deal with a lot of misogyny. But I did love how they sparked socially media rumors. That was cute! I'm so looking forward to the next book.

Review: It's a Love/Skate Relationship

Charlie Porter had the shot that would tie the game - when a cheap shot ruins her plans. After the game, the guy comes out at her again. This time she punches him and accidentally starts a brawl. At school, she loses her scholarship. She's forced to attend the local high school - with the same bullies from the fight. Charlie's also forced to pay for the damages; she's working off the payments are the rink.

There she runs into Alexa. She's a figure skater with Olympic dreams, but her partner sprained his ankle in the fight. Alexa's mother, her coach, thinks that Charlie could step in for Frankie. She reluctantly agrees. Alexa and Charlie can't stand each other. They bicker at every opportunity. Charlie's struggling to find her footing at figure skating.

Can Charlie survive the worst year of her life?
My Thoughts:

If you've seen the Cutting Edge, this is the book for you.

It has the same ideas - the banter and the learning to figure skate.

It also has a great friendship and great family. I loved Charlie's father and brother. I felt bad for her about her mom.

The jock bullies made me angry.

I didn't want this book to end. It was amazing.
