This week's topic is all about Series we didn't want to end. I am such a series reader, I adore them. There are several I didn't want to end.
This week's topic is comfort reads. With America being a trash fire, my comfort reads these past few years have been romance books. Yes, they follow a formula (as do most books). Most importantly, they all have a happy ending.
Which of course is very comforting!
Maze believes she should come with a warning label, despite her nickname of Mayhem Maze. But that's not who she is anymore...or who she wants to be. She has a job, she has some friends, but she's hasn't talked to her found family in years.But she's forced to come home for her foster sister's wedding. Maze carries a lot of guilt about a childhood tragedy and guilt for her behavior afterwards. Being back brings up so many childhood memories - memories of the happiest year of her life.But it also brings up the hurt and the guilt. Can Maze put the past behind her and believe that she deserves to be happy? Can she trust her family with her heart? Can she finally let go of the fear and let in all the love?
Brooke's shocked to discover her perfect sister on her doorstep having a meltdown. The two sisters have fallen out of touch, but Brooke doesn't hesitate to watch after her three kids while Mindy takes some time for herself.Brooke heads back to Mindy's house and to the town she's stayed away from for years. There she gets the kids back into their routine - sort of. She has no idea how her sister manages their lives. She's exhausted.Brooke doesn't even have the defenses she needs to combat her first love, Garrett. Garrett's now Mindy's best friend and neighbor. Since he's working on the house, he's around all the time. Brooke can't stop herself from reliving the past. She's trying to make amends for her mistakes, but Garrett's not interested in forgiving her. But he also doesn't mind kissing her...
Of course Sadie's seen Suits around before; he always seems uptight. But the night she finds him outside the shop in the middle of a storm trying to rescue a dog, she knows something different is happening. She helps him bring the dog inside and together they fall in love - with the dog.My Thoughts: Another great book in this addictive series. I must say that Lollipop stole the book for me. She had me laughing at her antics and hugging my own dogs tight. I loved seeing this group of friends again and peeking in on favorite characters. I loved the awkward moments between Sadie and Caleb from their growing friendship, to fighting their attraction for each other, and to finally doing something about it. I liked learning about Sadie's past and how it made her stronger. I loved her co-workers in the tattoo parlor and how they had her back. I liked Caleb's sisters and wouldn't mind getting to know them a little bit better. I can't wait to read more in this series.
She names the pup Lollipop. While they barely know each other, they decide to share the rescued pup since neither of them have the time required to give her.
Suits (Caleb) doesn't like emotions; he blocks himself off from them. It works well for his business, but not so well for his personal life. But Lollipop worms her way into his heart. One look at her face and he melts. Sadie's always fascinated him, the more time he spends with her, the more she breaks down his walls.
Molly's been the office manager for Hunt Investigations, but she wants to handle her own investigations. Archer believes she isn't ready, but she's not giving up. When neighbors bring her a case involving bad Santa, she's reluctant to say no.My Thoughts: I really love Jill Shalvis for so many reasons. It's become a requirement to have a Christmas romance from her every year. I adore this series for the group of friends and how we learn more about everyone. I loved learning more about Molly. I loved Molly's inner strength and how she refused to back down. I love her big heart and how she wanted to help everyone. I loved that she took care of herself but also pushed her limits. I loved the banter between her and Lucas. I loved Lucas's family and the contrast between his family and hers. Another great novel from Jill Shalvis.
Archer places Lucas on the case with her - unbeknownst to her. Lucas is still recovering from a gunshot wound. He's barely been cleared by the doctor for returning to work.
The more time he spends with Molly, the more he has to remind himself that as Joe's sister, she's off limits. But she's gotten under his skin. And he can't help admire her inner strength and determination.
