Review: Enemy Exposure

Book 2 in the Raven Files

With Raven's cover blown, she's got to stay one step ahead of KATO intelligence. But in order to get her revenge on the agency that held her captive for years, she might need a little inside help. Can she trust her old enemies to become allies with her? Can she get close enough to talk with them and perhaps turn them or will they complete their mission and recapture her alive?

My Thoughts: I love this series - lots of action and danger. I love the idea of taking down KATO from the inside. I love that Raven's father enters the picture and how that messes with her head. I love the tangled relationships Raven has with the other IDA agents, especially with Scorpion. I loved meeting the other KATO girls - and seeing the world through their eyes. They added humor to the story. After that cliffhanger ending, I can't wait to see what happens next.

Library Recommendation: Get this for your school and public library - it's a fantastic series with a female heroine who doesn't take no for an answer and goes after what she wants. 

Tween Tuesday Review: Spy School

One day Ben comes home from middle school to find a James Bond type spy in his living room. He doesn't question the fact that a spy school wants him to attend their academy. He simply goes along with it - mostly because he's so surprised.

His arrival on campus doesn't go as planned and he fails his incoming test. Ben soon realizes that he's no spy material and he's not supposed to be at the school. It's a fluke at best and at worst, someone has put a target on his back. Can he figure out who wants him dead without getting himself killed?

My Thoughts: I really liked this spy story - lots of action, lots of danger, and lots of plot twists. I didn't see the end coming. I really liked how Ben had one idea of spies and how they behaved until he attended the academy and everything changed. I like how he fumbled his way through everything - but it made his skills seem so much better. I loved Erika - how amazing she was and how logical and how she saw through appearances. A fun book that was great to read and worked really nicely for the book club. 

Why I read this book: We used this book for our Middle School Book Club book last month. Most of the teens loved it - one felt it was a little unrealistic. First we have a trivia contest - questions about the book. Then we play would you rather. Most of the questions revolved around being a spy and different types of spies and which kinds we would like to be.Then we (just like Ben)  tested out the puzzles on the CIA website, which was really fun.

Mysterious Saturday Review: Sealed with a Lie

 * Sequel to Two Lies and a Spy *

Kari and her brother Charlie are now living in Paris and attending an international school for spies. Kari's still reeling from finding out the truth about her parents, but she's trying to get by. Then the worst thing happens - someone kidnaps her brother.

She's not allowed to go for help;instead she must break a thief out of prison. Luckily, her annoying housemate follows her. Together, with her other friends, they hatch a plan.

Nothing is more important to Kari than her brother. She's desperate to know who took him and why. 

My Thoughts: I really enjoyed this book - for the action, the danger, the banter, and the friendship. I felt horrible for Charlie and his ordeal, I can't imagine what Kari felt as she desperately tried to save her brother. I enjoyed her banter with Evan - snarky, witty, and amusing. Gustav also added some humor into the story. Both the banter and the added humor blended nicely to defuse some of the tension in the story.  I'm curious to see where the story will go after the small cliffhanger.
