Pride & Prejudice

Obviously, both of these adaptations - I honestly love them both.

* I like the newest one, but I don't love it like I do these ones.

Persuasion:

I do love the scenery in Bath. To be honest, it's been years since I've seen either of these. But I do remember enjoying them.

Sense and Sensibility:

I am looking forward to the new Pride and Prejudice and Sense and Sensibility projects

Review: Sense and Second Degree Murder

 

Elinor discovers her father's body in his study. It looks like a heart attack. In order to protect her family, she spurs into action, taking control of the situation. 

Unbeknownst to his second family, he never made a will. Therefore, no monies have been set aside for her wife or their three daughters. John, their half brother and his wife inherit the house and everything in it.

Elinor and Marianne both have ambitions. Elinor wants to be a scientist while Marianne wants to continue their father's work as a detective. As they begin to talk about the circumstances of their father's death, their suspicions are aroused. Could he have been murdered?

When they are forced to move out of their childhood home, they lose precious belongings - including any evidence left behind. Now they must rely on the kindness of strangers and acquaintances to solve the mystery and to create a sense of belonging.

My Thoughts: I loved this Jane Austen reimagined murder mystery. The characters from the first book were mentioned, but this isn't a straight sequel. The Dashwood sisters were lovely - smart - and squabbled like sisters. I loved their ambitions, the romances, and their determination to solve their father's murder. This captured the emotions of the book beautifully and added some just desserts.

NaNoWriMo: 2017

Last year was the first year in a LONG time I didn't participate in NaNoWriMo - because I was working on editing my novel all last year. I realized that if I finished it, then I would be able to write again. This made me get my butt in gear. It's always hard to think the manuscript is finished because there are always things to write differently and ways to improve. But I called it quits on Friday and by Wednesday, I was back writing.

So here's what I'm writing about: it the last companion novel in my book set - all Jane Austen novels. It's the retelling of Sense and Sensibility.

It's very simple. And I have no idea how lollipops will play into it - yet.

For right now, I'm just having fun writing again.

But since I try for 2,000 words/day, this space might get a little less active. Although I'll try not to make that happen. Plus, I'm reading less because of all the writing. 

Today I'm at 15,000 words and striving for another 1,000 to hit my goal for the day.

Review: Sass and Serendipity

A modern day retelling of Jane Austen's masterpiece Sense and Sensibility.

Sisters Gabby and Daphne are nothing alike.

Daphne's the younger sister - she's romantic, believes the best in people, social, and out going.

Gabby's the older more responsible sister. She helps run the household, studies constantly to win a scholarship for college, and has one best friend.

They fight all the time as neither sister can put herself in the other's shoes. Each sister wishes her sister would be more like her. When their mother goes out of town for job training, the two sisters must learn to live together to survive their mother's absence. Will they ever be able to see eye to eye???

My Thoughts: I can't stop thinking about this book - and wondering how much I liked it. As a sister, I can see both sister's view perfectly. On one hand, it was hard to connect with the sisters as they were so dramatic with each other - everything was in black or white. On the other hand - the story was compelling and I needed to see it ended. I really liked Mule and Prentiss. I loved how closely it related to Sense and Sensibility.

Review: Sense and Sensibility the Graphic Edition

Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility told in graphic novel form - the story of two sisters and the differences between their manner of conduct. One is a drama queen and one is reserved. Which is better?

My Thoughts: I liked this much better than the Pride and Prejudice one. The pictures were different - less low cut dresses and more caricature faces. Plus I love Marianne's antics. In the beginning it was hard to tell the people apart - but that quickly changed. I great way to introduce young readers to Jane Austen. I do hope they do the other Austen novels
