A young girl is excited to help at Thanksgiving this year! Her family makes two lists: one for the local market and one for the Korean market. Their Thanksgiving is a blend of their two worlds. 

This is a sweet story about family, trying new things, and traditions. 

The kids of the family don't want to eat the turkeys this year, so they come up with disguises.

This is a funny and clever story. I love all the disguises. 

This is a lovely story about Thanksgiving.

The illustrations are soft and warm. While this book does have religious undertones and prayer is mentioned, it's diverse and heartfelt. 

Thanksgiving isn't just for family; it's perfect for friends too

I love this one; it's sweet and it shows all the joy of people coming together. I love seeing people in all the windows. I loved seeing people appreciate each other. It's just a wonderful book about caring and sharing the day together. 

Picture Book Review: Thanksgiving Books

Just a few picture books and board books for Thanksgiving:

This is board book is stinking adorable. I love the photos of puppies. Full of Thanksgiving and puppy moments, this book is perfect to pour over again and again. I hope this is a series of holiday and animal books.

I loved Corduroy as a child, so I love seeing more books with him and Lisa. This hits all the Thanksgiving notes. 

Animals and people gather food together for the colder months of fall.

While this rhyming book isn't strictly a Thanksgiving story, it does showcase how animals and people are very similar when it comes to gathering food and family. 

In this book, there's room for everyone at the table.  There's room for new and old traditions, new and old friends, and room to give thanks for people and the earth. And of course there's always room for dessert.

This is a sweet diverse story that highlights important pieces of the day - not just the togetherness but the thankful and happiness part. 

Board Book: You're My Little Cutie Pie

I love this series of books - they're the perfect combination of sweet and punny. I love the textured illustrations - they are so cozy and adorable. I love the love between the parent and child. This book is fantastic for fall and thanksgiving time. 

 

Picture Book Review: Thanksgiving Books

There are so many things to love about Thanksgiving and this board book covers them all. 

The cozy illustrations are adorable! 

Peyton is a picky eater, but she's determined to try a piece of pie this Thanksgiving. There are So many pies to choose from - and none of them sound good to her.

This book made me crave pie in the worst way. Also, I loved the idea of looking at things at little bit differently. There is an apple pie recipe in the back of the book.

The why and how Thanksgiving became a national holiday - Americans not First Peoples. 

I do like how this book focuses on gratitude and not the first Thanksgiving celebration. 

The first Thanksgiving told by a grandmother from the Wampanoag perspective. 

Written by one of the First Peoples, this book talks about the Three Sisters - corn, beans and squash and how valuable they were to the newcomers that first year. They call Thanksgiving their day of mourning as the majority of First Peoples died from disease and warfare. An important story to have the collection that showcases the other side of history.

See the books I chatted about last week

This board book is great for fans of Paw Patrol - it shares what all the pups and Ryder are thankful for this year. And it gives some great shout-outs to important and essential workers.

Another fun book about being thankful - and counting down to the holiday. 

It does talk about the pilgrims in a school play - no in depth look or wrong information shared here. Which gives parents an opportunity to talk about history...or not. 

While I loved this book for the illustrations, the quotes are not really for children. This might work for school aged children. Otherwise, it's lovely to look at the pictures together.

This is a sweet story about animals being grateful. It's half and half with nature and animals as people. the illustrations are gorgeous.

Here are some Thanksgiving reads that I've read this year. I'm still working on updating the collection, so if you have a favorite, please let me know.

Falling for Autumn: Pete the Cat
Pete the Cat isn't sure about autumn, but he discovers all there is to love about the fall. This doesn't seem like a Thanksgiving book until the end of the book. But they celebrate fall with a feast which includes a cornucopia of all the fall items Pete has collected during his aventures.

This is not a picture book, but I'm including it because it has great information about the Mayflower, the Pilgrims, and that first Thanksgiving. This nonfiction book (225 pages) doesn't pull any punches about racism in early America. I really enjoyed reading about the history - and what was different than we were taught in school. Lots of pictures and facts make it easy to keep turning the pages of this book. I'm looking forward to more books in this series.

Gobble Up Snoopy

Snoopy is thankful for - his food dish being filled up. So he pens a thank you note to his food dish. It's funny and sweet and all about food and friendship. 

Turkey for Thanksgiving

This one is a much older story, which my boss urged me to read, about a group of friends getting together to share Thanksgiving dinner. But the hostess desperately wants a turkey for the table and her husband promises to track one down - which he does with a little help from his friends. 

While the premise seems a bit scary, this is a lovely book about friendship, food, and being together. 

How to Catch a Turkey

When a turkey hears about a show, he get stage fright. He leads the entire school on a chase - from the coach to the principle. He goes from science class to the library to the recess yard - all before he mistakenly makes he way back to the stage where he'll have to face his fear. 

A cute story about facing your fears with fun illustrations.

Fangsgiving

The members of the Fright Club are back and gathering for their Thanksgiving feast. They have their own way of doing things, but when Vladimir's family shows up, they take over the meal preparation. And it goes badly. Thanksgiving is ruined. 

A great story about expectations, family, and working together to make a memorable day.

Duck and Hippo Give Thanks

Duck and Hippo decide to host an old fashioned Thanksgiving Feast. Hippo can't wait to have all the trimmings! He works hard baking, but his friends are late. When they show up, they all have a dish to add to the table. But it's not the dishes at a typical Thanksgiving Feast...

A sweet story about friendship, being different, and sharing.

What happens when a family of vampires get together for Thanksgiving? The family members cook different foods and not the way Vlad would like it.

A cute story about Thanksgiving with different food dishes. This picture book is funny, entertaining, and has a great messages about working together. The illustrations are charming. This charming picture book is a celebratory treat for the whole family.
