Take Your Child to the Library Day: Recap

Last Saturday, it was Take Your Child to the Library Day, and it was a very busy day at the library.

We had a Unicorn Day:

How it went:
Storytime was full.
All of our take & make crafts went out.
Foodie Fun went out.
Lots of books were checked out.
It wasn't just busy in the morning but all afternoon too.

It was so nice to see favorite families visit and lots of new faces.

Things to improve on:
Unicorns, while popular, are hard for storytime because the books are so long. I ended up reading some board books, which was great. But next year, maybe I'll pick the theme with books in mind.

While unicorns are super popular, they're not the most gender-neutral theme.

Maybe next year, we will partner with some local businesses, so everyone wins.

Take Your Child to the Library Day - Recap

Yesterday was Take Your Child to the Library Day. If you don't know about this day, it started in Connecticut, but it's gone country wide. You can read more about it here

The idea is to celebrate libraries and all that they do for Children (and for all ages).

At my library, we had a Frozen Day.

I hosted a Frozen Storytime. We read some stories, danced to Do You Want to Build a Snowman with bubbles, waved scarved during our sing-along to Let It Go, and created a wand craft. We handed out a sticker and bubbles to go. The room was packed and everyone seemed to have fun.

Books Read:

Wand craft:

We had a Frozen themed Foodie Fun take & make. We ran out in the afternoon. It usually takes us a few days.

We had a Frozen Olaf in a Snowglobe Take & Make Craft. We almost ran out of these.

Lots of families visited. It was lovely to see so many familiar faces and some new faces too.

It was a great day!

Today's the day - the 9th annual Take Your Child to the Library Day

It's celebrated around the country.

Take some time and visit your local library. Check out all they have to offer.

Although we love books, libraries aren't just about books anymore.

Do they check out cake pans? Snow Shoes? Board Games? Museum Passes? Tools?

What kind of programs do they host? Movie Nights? Board Game Nights? Cooking Classes? Wildlife Presentations?

Summer might be our busiest time of year, but host programs all year round. And we like to see you all year round.

If you don't have a library card, it's easy to sign up. Just bring something official with your address on it. Funding for libraries depend upon the number of people using the library (Checking out materials and coming to programs) and the amount of cardholders. Every little bit helps.

So head to the library today and see what amazing things your library does!

Take some photos of the library and use the official hashtag: #TakeYourChildtotheLibraryDay
