Mysterious Saturday Review: Killer Instinct

* Book 2 in the Naturals series
After the narrow escape Cassie had last time the group worked on an open case, security tightens around the Naturals. When a new murder occurs - the team can't believe that it's a perfect copy of Dean's father's crimes.

More than anything, the group wants to help Dean by catching the killer so life can return to normal. But lying, sneaking out, and putting themselves in danger doesn't seem to be helping - especially when every lead only goes cold.

Cassie hates watching Dean relive his past - even more than she hates him withdrawing from her. Can they figure out the  truth out getting themselves into too much trouble - or killed?
My Thoughts: I adore this series - it's intense and leaves me on the edge of my seat. I couldn't read this after dark - but I also couldn't put it down. I loved how the team came together to try to help Dean even though he tried shutting everyone out. I liked the moments between Cassie and Lia - and how they learned much more about each other. I admire the group's sense of loyalty even though they're not the best of friends.  My heart broke for Dean and how he had to talk with his father and relive the moments of his worst nightmares. I liked the addition of Sterling -she is touch, determined, fair, brave, and smart. I figured out the ending just before the final plot twist. A gruesome fantastic read that I highly recommend. I can't wait to see what happens to the group next in light of the new rules.

Cover Thoughts: I love it -especially how it ties into the book

Review: Killer Instinct

Lane isn't your average teen; she hides a secret obsession of following serial killers. Lane can relate to them because she understands them. She feels the darkness rise in herself.

When her FBI mother catches a case featuring a local serial killer, Lane can't help but be fascinated with the details. She starts looking into the case. Soon, she's contacted personally by the killer.

The more she learns about the case, the more she learns that everything she thought she knew about her life was a lie. Can she solve the case before someone she loves is murdered?
My Thoughts:  This book sucked me in and didn't let me go. I read it in one sitting because I couldn't put it down. At the same time, I found it disturbingly creepy. I'm drawn to crime shows and cozy murder mysteries. It's hard to talk about this book without giving too much away - so I'll say that I really liked Lane's step siblings. They were cute, funny, snarky, and smart. They added some lightness to the story. I never saw the final twist coming; this book kept me on the edge of my seat turning pages.

Cover Thoughts: Interesting.

S. E. Green's Cover Reveal:

S. E. Green was raised in Tennessee but now calls North Florida home. Killer Instinct is her debut young adult thriller. Find her at segreen.net, or on Twitter @Shan_E_Green, or on her Facebook Fan Page.

BOOK BLURB:
She’s not evil, but she has certain. . . urges.
Lane is a typical teenager. Loving family. Good grades. After-school job at the local animal hospital. Martial arts enthusiast. But her secret obsession is studying serial killers. She understands them, knows what makes them tick.

Why?

Because she might be one herself.

Lane channels her dark impulses by hunting criminals—delivering justice when the law fails. The vigilantism stops shy of murder. But with each visceral rush the line of self-control blurs.

And then a young preschool teacher goes missing. Only to return. . . in parts.

When Lane excitedly gets involved in the hunt for “the Decapitator,” the vicious serial murderer that has come to her hometown, she gets dangerously caught up in a web of lies about her birth dad and her own dark past. And once the Decapitator contacts Lane directly, Lane knows she is no longer invisible or safe. Now she needs to use her unique talents to find the true killer’s identity before she—or someone she loves—becomes the next victim. . . .
