Picture Book Review: New Books

Here are some picture books that came into the library or sent for review:
Luis loves Mondays because that's when the bookmobile arrives in town. The colorfulness of Mondays chase aways the sad days. Instead, he gets to spread happiness all around town, which is favorite thing to do.

This story takes place in Honduras where things are very different than in New England. I love how books and stories bring happiness to others. It's sometimes hard to read books about struggles, but this story ends happily.

Ruby and Ned collect the eggs in the morning and then they head off to sell them.

This book is SUPER fun. It's full of maps and mazes where readers get to trace the route of the truck. There's so much to pour over in these illustrations, making this a great book to share.

This is about a child visiting a modern art museum with their parent. They are bored until they discover a way inside the art.

A totally fun book that lets kids explore the art as if they are inside it. I loved the mazes.  There are lots of pages to open, which might not be best for a library book, but are super cool nonetheless.

Nature is amazing - and this book proves it.

Reminiscent of April Pulley Sayre's books - this book is stunning. It's full of gorgeous photographs taken in National Parks around the world.

Chino loves the scarf her mother ties around her hair at night. When her mom leaves for work, she lets her daughter play with it. Chino, bunny, and the scarf have lots of adventures together.

This is a great introduction for kids whose mother doesn't use a sleeping scarf. The illustrations are bright and bold. A great book to share together.

Books about Pets:
A child rescues a prickly kitten and discovers they are so much alike but they find a way to help each other.

A sweet story about pets and friendship. I love how they were both able to be themselves - a little wild and a little sweet.

Arfy found a kitty who needs a home - he writes letters to so many people. Could one of them give his new friend a home?

A cute epistolary novel - this is the second book in a three book (so far) series. Each of them are adorable and a little bit sad- but they all work out just fine.

Books about Friendship:
In school, they're hosting a pen-pal program - the sharing of pictures and letters. Nicole and Constance get paired up, but little do they know; they are not the same.

Another fun epistolary picture book! I love the art work that's sent back and forth. And that ending is perfect!

Mia and her mom moved to a house which has a mango tree. Soon she has too many mangos - but she has a brilliant idea. They solve their problem and come up with a great way to meet the neighbors. It's a win win!

I love the idea of community and sharing in this book. It's so sweet.

When you slow down and look - you see different things. It goes through seasons and finally the discovery of a new friend.

I love the message in this book - but also how things change on each of the pages. This book is a great one to share with a small group.
