Review: Writing Mr. Wrong

After her divorce, Gemma wrote a romance novel; no one wanted to publish it. She wrote another one featuring an asshole alpha. He's based off a guy she knew in high school who now plays professional hockey.

On the day of the book's publication, Gemma's on the local morning TV show. The host is a woman she went to high school with, and she brings out Mason Moretti. Gemma is stunned to see him and also embarrassed. Mason hasn't read the book, so he's flattered that she based her hero after him.

After their interview, people start talking about them. Mason's going through a rough patch in his career. He could use a boost of good publicity. He offers Gemma a deal where they fake date for good publicity for them both. After the moments in their past, Gemma's not sure she wants to open that door. But she can't help be tempted by it either.
My Thoughts: I really enjoyed this book. I love how Gemma and Mason had history from high school. Yes, Mason is kind of a jerk. But he has good intentions, he just needed to stop and think before he acted. I love that Mason was trying to become a better person, but really it was just become the right person for Gemma. I love how he influenced her writing. I loved how he talked about his troubles reading, but that didn't stop him from finding alternatives.

Cover Thoughts: Funny

Library Recommendation: Highly recommended for your public library's romance collection.

Review: The Reckoning

Chloe and her pack are happy they found Andrew, someone from the brothers' past they can trust. He provides them with a home --beds, food, and a roof over their heads. Andrew used to work for the Edison Group and he knows people with similar powers.

He gathers them to meet the pack. Chloe, Tory, and Simon now have a chance for training. No one can help Derek, as there aren't any other werewolves in the group. He'll have to go through this change on his own. The training begins, but the adults do not believe in the strength of the pack's powers. One woman forces Chloe to go into a graveyard and raise the dead. She refuses to believe Chloe can simply summon the dead without the use of spells.

When she realizes the truth, she's afraid. She has the same powers as Chloe, but on a much smaller scale. With the adults afraid of their powers, especially Derek's werewolf form, no one is comfortable. Everyone's jumpy and before long, Chloe starts second guessing everything.

Slowly the plan to rescue friends from the Edison Group fizzles forcing the pack to reevaluate their situation. Something seems a bit off, but they can't quite put their fingers on it. Are they really safe or this house just a cover with danger lurking right around the corner?

My Thoughts: I'm sad to see this series end. I Loved the danger, the friendship, the double crossings, the twists, the action and the paranormal elements. The ending fit perfectly, very satisfying.

The Cover: Awesome - love the similarities of the series

Fun Fact: Taken from K. Armstrong's journal:
While this is the last book in the trilogy, it's not the end of the series. Book 4, The Gathering, comes out next spring. You won't find a page for it here because of the site overhaul, though. The Gathering adds new characters to the series while the current ones take a well-deserved break!

Awesome news!

the Awakening

(Sequel to The Summoning which includes *Spoilers* for that book)

Chloe's still devastated by her aunt's involvement with the Edison Group. She's now stuck in a new house where things are supposed to improve. She's supposed be learning how to control her power, but she's not willing to give up too much information. She doesn't tell anyone that she can talk to Liz's ghost. Meanwhile Derek and Simon are still at large and the group desperately wants to capture them. They try pumping Chloe for information, but she's not budging. Finally after many threats, she weakens and says she might be able to remember something if she can look for it. But underneath she just wants to escape. Between a truce with Tori - who offers her help, the two of them elude the guards the group sent with them to the factory. With Liz's help, they remain out of sight until they meet up with the boys. Together they come up with a plan escape to find someone the brothers know and trust. Unfortunately, they have little money and can't risk Chloe's face being recognized. With difficult circumstances, they split up. Each group will meet at the house, where hopefully, they'll find the answers they've been looking for.

The cover of the first one drew my eye, but the story sucked me in. Now questions of the supernatural powers keep rising. Derek almost changes into a werewolf and Chloe keeps raising the dead - sometimes in her sleep. They have so many questions they need answered before they can learn to live in peace and they might not be able to live normal lives in society. But they're ready to try. The love triangle between the characters creates great tension. I know who I want Chloe to end up with. With book 3 not scheduled to come out until May 2010, it's going to be a long wait....
