Review: Rules of Royalty

 

Male - Male version of The Princess Diaries.

Jamie finds out on his 17th birthday that he's a prince of a small European country. His parents were not married. His mother died years ago, leaving his guardianship to her best friend. She wanted him to grow up without the added pressure of being a royal.

Jamie agrees to a trip during the summer - to see the country and meet his new family. As he's navigating society for the first time, his father gives him the number of someone who can help.

Erik is the prince of a neighboring country who's been asked to help. He agrees. Erik is also gay, giving Jamie an extra outlet for questions when they arise.

My Thoughts: I'm the biggest fan of the Princess Diaries books, so I was super excited to read this. And it lived up. I tore through this novel. 

Yes, it has this line:

Jamie has a great family and a great group of friends. Erik's family is very strict and his grandmother, the Queen, knows everything. Jamie and Erik were both interested in each other, but it took a bit for them to admit their feeling. I love books about Royals.

Review: Going Biocoastal

 

Natayla Fox has a choice to make this summer: she can go visit her mother in L.A. and take an internship with her or stay in New York with her father. There are pros and cons to both choices. Natayla doesn't have a relationship with her mother; it's time to fix that. Living with her could be the way. What's a girl going to choose? And how will her choice change everything?

My Thoughts: Once upon a time, my friend urged me to read Dahlia Adler and she wasn't wrong. Another hit from this author. I appreciated the similarities to Sliding Doors, but I also liked how it was different. I honestly enjoyed both stories. I loved Nat's art - and how it was talked about in terms of the future. I love how everything worked out.

Also the single mom dating and the community surrounding the family also has Gilmore Girl Vibes.

Ever since I heard about this book, it's been on my TBR pile. And it did not disappoint!

Middle Grade Review: Enola Holmes and the Black Barouche

 

* Book 7 in the Enola Holmes series *

Sherlock Holmes isn't thrilled that his sister is butting her nose into his latest case. Of course, there were extenuating circumstances. Enola couldn't help getting involved when a young woman showed up at his door with a curious letter about her sister's death. 

Letita knows that her twin sister is not dead, but she doesn't know how to prove it. Enola is quite happy to look into the case. Something is desperately wrong, and nothing adds up. Enola decides to go undercover where she learns more about the Earl and barely escapes in the process. 

Her run in with the Earl only makes Enola more determined to uncover the entire truth. 

My Thoughts: I was so happy when the success of the Netflix movie meant more books and more movies! I liked the addition of Sherlock to this book and how the siblings worked together. I enjoyed seeing some old favorite characters from previous books. I enjoyed this mystery and its quirky moments. There are some horrific moments in this book, which I can't talk about without spoilers. Another fun book.
