Series Spotlight: Dear Beast

Andy's parents divorce. Andy gets a dog, Beast, at his Dad's house. Simon, the original pet, is NOT happy. Simon tries to get Beast to leave.

Simon is happy to have Beast be in the pet parade this year instead of him - until he gets jealous.

The classroom pet is missing - Andy is fighting with his friend about who is to blame. Simon decides he's going to solve the mystery.

Andy's mom goes away for the week. Simon goes to stay with Andy and Beast - and it doesn't go as Simon planned.

Dear Beast is part of our Easy Chapter collection as it's short (roughly 75 pages) and heavily illustrated.

It's an adorable epistolary novel series. Beast's letters are playful and full of mis-spelled words. Simon is a grump old curmudgeon. But they both love Andy and want him to be happy. You meet other animals in the neighborhood - Snail (who delivers the mail and may have been a spy), Squirrel, a skunk, a wily crow, an old outdoor tomcat. The illustrations are super cute. This series is perfect for animal lovers!

A must have series for your library collection!

Series Spotlight: She Persisted

She Persisted

I've read several of these books. I just finished:

And it was super good. Of course, I've heard of Maria Tallchief, but besides being awesome at dancing, I didn't know much. And I know a lot more. I know when she fell in love with ballet, how she went to New York City by herself, and how her sister was also a talented dance. I learned how she valued her Osage heritage, how she was the first American ballet dancer on many world stages, and that ballets were written just for her.

Talk about inspiring!

Every time I read a She Persisted book, I feel inspired by these women and their stories. I love their big dreams, their determination, and of course their persistence. These books are perfectly wonderful, perfectly feminist, and perfectly fun to read while learning about amazing women.

I'm so happy that more are being published. I have a few to catch up on. But I have so enjoyed the ones that I've read.

Series Spotlight: Fox and Rabbit

Fox and Rabbit are good friends who have adventures together. One is adventurous and one is a little bit anxious - but they make the perfect pair. Book 2 is all about fall. Book 3 is all about a birthday celebration.
These graphic novels are all about friendship. Sometimes turtle gets the short end of the stick - which is sad. There are funny moments, kind moments, and moments where the friends ask for help. They make new friends and have moments of jealousy.  The illustrations are super cute. This series are feel good reads for readers of all ages.

Library Recommendation: Highly recommended for your school and public libraries

* Book 3 is up for a Cybils Award
