Football: Passive Programs

Now that football season is in full swing, here are a few passive programs that are easy to run. Leave them in a teen friendly location with a display on football books or a sign that says Return this to {insert your name} for a piece of candy. I quickly found out that teens would do anything for candy. And if one teen had candy, they bragged about it and everyone else jumped on board...

Matching Game:

Match the mascot with the team 

Match the football player name with his number

Match the football player with his team

Match the coach with the team

Puzzle Games:

Create a word search, crossword, or maze relating to football

New Adult Review: Under the Lights

 * First book in a new series *

Chase could be having the worst day. His long time girlfriend left him for another man and his business partner took their money and left. Then the phone rings.

Kelly, the daughter of his high school football coach, wants his help fundraising for the team. If they don't raise enough money, there's no team. With nothing left to lose, he gives in to the guilt.

The once golden boy returns home without a plan for his future and no present. As he starts volunteering, he remembers his past and how he felt like a hero winning the state championship. He wants other boys to have that chance.

He wouldn't mind having a chance with Kelly either...

My Thoughts: I really liked this book. It reminded me of Friday Night Lights (set 10 years in the future). 

I felt bad for Chase because he worked hard but his entire life fell apart. I did admire the way he picked himself up - determined to start over and not live in his glory days.

I loved Kelly - how she cared for the kids, how she took her job seriously, and how she gave back to the community.

I really liked meeting the younger players and the former players. They had a lot in common. I liked how the coach shaped a generation of boys becoming men and how he had expectations of them.

Monday Matinee: Friday Night Lights

Friday Night Lights:

Ok, So I heard everyone on Twitter talking about how much they loved this show. My husband and I started a while back and then stopped watching it. I can't remember why. But we were looking for something to binge watch and we started it again....And fell in love.

For several reasons. Here are mine:
1. Tami Taylor: Smart, full of advice, helped so many teens, confident, sweet, strong, a partner, and gorgeous.

2. Tim Riggins: he made terrible choices, had a big heart, and let's face it- was easy on the eyes
3. Football Games: pure fun
4. Coach Taylor: used football to shape players, helped one girl find her dreams on a football field, that ending!
5. So many great moments that made me smile or tear up!

BUT I did have a few problems with it:
1. The timeline - 33, 7, Lila, and Tyra were all seniors that first season. And then they weren't.
2. The plot holes - so many things happened that didn't have consequences or that came out of nowhere
