Ender Wiggin could be the boy to save the world from the alien buggers. As a small boy, he's sent to military school to see if he has what it takes. With all eyes on him, the leaders make an example out of him pushing him past his limits. While Ender feels quite alone, he enjoys the games they must play to learn how to lead in battle.He's concerned about turning into his malicious brother Peter, but he's not about to let anyone stand in his way or intimidate him. Ender watches the older boys to learn what no one will teach him. He's not afraid to try new maneuvers and throw out the rule book. There are no rules in war anyway. Ender builds up his army, but it's all in games and learning...there's no way a ten year old can be the only hope to save the world.
My Thoughts: This is not a book I would have picked up myself. I fully admit that my husband made me read it - but it was AMAZING. I'm quite interested in reading the sequel now. A great YA/Adult sci-fi book.
The Cover: This cover is awesome, but the one on the book I read was dreadful - more like a small boy playing in space, almost like a children's book. This book IS NOT a children's book.

This is one of my favorite books - ever. Speaker for the Dead, the next one in the series, is even better.
If you haven't read Sherri Tepper, she writes a lot like Orson Scott Card, and I highly recommend her works as well
SPEAKER FOR THE DEAD is awesome. (I actually read that first.) Then things go off the rails a bit about halfway through Xenocide. Then, Children of the Mind is one big "Huh?" from beginning to end. So, um, my recommendation is DEFINITELY read Speaker, and then maybe stop.
This is one of my all time favorite books, too! I went out and bought my own copy after reading it. It's sci-fi that is really character driven. I was not a fan of the three books that come after...BUT!!!! Ender's Shadow and the books following that are much more like Ender's Game, so I would recommend you read those. They focus again on all the kids from Ender's Game and what happens to them after. Much better!!
I absolutely LOVED this book- Ender's Shadow is amazing too. Like you, I was surprised that I liked it; it was one of those books that I picked out of my brother's bookshelf out of boredom. :)
I just had a student tell me today that I needed to read this book! I'll be looking into it.
I love this book and it's one I've read over and over. I recently recommended it to my brother and he really liked it too.
