Picture Book Review: Bruce Saves the Planet

Yesterday was Earth Day, here's a fun book:

When Bruce wants some peace and quiet, he heads to the stream to fish. But something's different. Bruce lands in the thick of things.

My Thoughts: I adore the Bruce books - he's so grumpy yet so loveable. I love how he saves the day without meaning too. The geese and the mice push him into things - like this. He's a good sport about it all. This book shows the process of how things change, even if it does happen much faster in the book than in real life. 

There is an author's note in the back about how readers can help the environment, and it shares some endangered animals.

This is a great storytime read for older kids - not too much text, bright colors, and great ending!

Before everyone had fun in the tree and under the tree, Nell finds a seed and takes care of it.

I love how the story changes times. It shares how the tree is loved today and also how the tree grows and with it - Nell's family. A sweet story about both nature and family.

This one talks about weather, but also about the science behind the weather. It's sort of a story and sort of a nonfiction book. The sky glows for many different reasons.

I love the science behind the weather: rainbows, solar eclipses, fireflies, and light for photography. There is a mini part about light pollution on the last page.

This book is for older kiddos, but it's pretty cool so I'm including it. 

It shares information about the forest in terms of science, but also how different cultures use the forest, animals in the forest, and more. There are detailed pop-ups on every other page.

Picture Books: Happy Earth Day

 

Just a few picture books about trees to celebrate Earth Day

Great knowledge about trees with gorgeous illustrations!

After a misunderstanding of ordering, the characters plant SO Many trees - trees of all different shapes and sizes. The placement of the trees is really neat. 

This book makes you want to explore more. I loved how it wove everything together from the trees to the animals. We're all interdependent on each other. And of course, communication helps!

Review: Pop-Up Earth

 

This is a super fun book to read and timely with Earth Day this week.

This book contains 5 pop-ups.

The first one talks about the beginnings to Earth and the different layers

Others talk about: life under water, volcanoes,  biodiversity, and Earth's long life.

The pop-ups are fantastic and detailed. Plus the side bars give interesting information. This is not a book for your library's collection but instead a book to pour over with family or friends.
