Picture Book Wednesday: Valentine Books (2)

More Valentine books and books about love:

It's Valentine's Day and Rocket has a secret admirer.

A cute board book with secrets notes that leads Rocket to the next clue. Lots of rhyming - which is great for vocabulary. And of course, I love the gift!

10 Reasons a parent loving their child.

This board book is very sweet. Great illustrations and it's a touch and feel story.

Fiona, the loveable hippo, sees love everywhere in the zoo.

Great illustrations, lots of animals, and lots of love. It's find to find the hearts on all the pages. There's also a lot of things to talk about in this book from animals to love to families.

An adorable ocean full of puns about a parent's love for their child and charming illustrations.

Adorable for dog lovers - full of puns. The illustrations are mixed with cute dog photos and illustrations of diverse kids.

Valentine's Day has gone awry. This is a cute, funny, rhyming book.

Top Ten Tuesday: Quick Reads

This week's topic is quick reads or short books. I think short books really means quick reads. For me, quick reads can be graphic novels. I read a lot of these because A) they are fun and B) I want to be able to recommend them to readers at the library. Here are several that I read last year and loved.

Have you read any of these?

Middle Grade Review: Ink Girls

Cinzia is the printer's apprentice. Mestra Aronne is determined to publish a story that will anger the ruling family. Even though the story is true; the guards come for both of them in the middle of the night. Cinzia manages to escape. She runs into Elena - she's part of the ruling noble family. Elena thinks she can help Cinzia. Together, they can discover the proof Mestra Aronne has and bring it to the family. With Elena on her side, Cinzia hopes they can save her found family. But will the city support her?
My Thoughts: I loved this graphic novel! There's action, danger, found family, and fighting for good. A group of girls, who wouldn't normally be friends, find each other and fight to change the world. Just one girl has a hard time changing the world, but together, they seem almost unstoppable. A great feminist graphic novel. There's a rumor that this is book one - here's hoping this is true, because I want more Ink Girls!

Cover Thoughts: Fantastic

Library Recommendation: A must have graphic novel for your library's collection.

Take Your Child to the Library Day - Recap

Yesterday was Take Your Child to the Library Day. If you don't know about this day, it started in Connecticut, but it's gone country wide. You can read more about it here.

The idea is to celebrate libraries and all that they do for Children (and for all ages).

At my library, we had a Frozen Day.

I hosted a Frozen Storytime. We read some stories, danced to Do You Want to Build a Snowman with bubbles, waved scarved during our sing-along to Let It Go, and created a wand craft. We handed out a sticker and bubbles to go. The room was packed and everyone seemed to have fun.

Books Read:

Wand craft:

We had a Frozen themed Foodie Fun take & make. We ran out in the afternoon. It usually takes us a few days.

We had a Frozen Olaf in a Snowglobe Take & Make Craft. We almost ran out of these.

Lots of families visited. It was lovely to see so many familiar faces and some new faces too.

It was a great day!

Board Books

Just some new board books at the library:

Bizzy Bear is leaving on a train - to travel to a party.

These books don't have much a story - however, they have bright colors and movement tabs that make up for it. Kids will love these books regardless and there's a whole series.

If you like farms, this book is for you.

Lots of vocabulary here, questions to answer, and amazing photographs. It's a DK book through and through. The tabs tell you all you need to know what the book is about. Great for baby shower gifts.

ABCs of animals and love.

This is a charming book full of cute illustrations and love. Another great book for baby showers.

This rhyming book is full of amazing animal photographs accompanied by a quick rhyming description. Lots of to talk about here.
