Picture Book Review: The Talk

My Thoughts: I'm a white lady without children - but this book is important and I'm glad it's in our library. It's a privilege never to have to have this talk - but it's also important to acknowledge that people of color are not that fortunate.

The Talk is a powerful story about a boy and his friends just playing on the street. It's an important story to share and it's a good conversation to have. It can be very eye opening.

As he grows, the activities vary from running to playing basketball to hanging out. But this grandfather warns him and his friends - don't hang out in big groups. His mother instructs him on how to behave in malls. His father tells him how to behave if the police pull him over while in car. There are all these little details - but when he wears a hoodie with earbuds in and the hood on his head - his parents sit him down.  Throughout the whole book the boy is asking what has he done wrong. His parents hug him and assure him he's done nothing wrong, but they want to make sure he stays alive.
