Graphic Novel Review: Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me

Laura Dean Keeps Breaking Up with Me
Laura Dean, the most popular girl in high school, was Frederica Riley's dream girl: charming, confident, and SO cute. There's just one problem: Laura Dean is maybe not the greatest girlfriend.Reeling from her latest break up, Freddy's best friend, Doodle, introduces her to the Seek-Her, a mysterious medium, who leaves Freddy some cryptic parting words: break up with her. But Laura Dean keeps coming back, and as their relationship spirals further out of her control, Freddy has to wonder if it's really Laura Dean that's the problem. Maybe it's Freddy, who is rapidly losing her friends, including Doodle, who needs her now more than ever. Fortunately for Freddy, there are new friends, and the insight of advice columnists like Anna Vice to help her through being a teenager in love. - Summary from the publisher

My Thoughts: It seems like everyone has a Laura Dean in their life - someone you've dated or are going to date who's just not right for you. Mine was in college - his name was Ben. And the relationship was fine, but ran it's course. I should have walked away the first time we broke up. But of course I didn't. There's a usually a reason things don't work out. It's hard to walk away, but it's also brave and strong. I wish I had been both strong and brave. It took me a year before I realized how terrible we were together. One day, I was having trouble processing a problem. He said something and it was like a lightbulb went off. I wasn't interested in him anymore.

I loved this book and I needed to see how everything turned out. I loved how Freddy realized that she didn't like herself when she was with Laura Dean. And that while she might Love Laura Dean, the relationship didn't make her happy. And really isn't that all that matters.

Cover Thoughts: Cute
