Pride and Prejudice: 200 years
Dear Jane,
I first discovered your work after watching Clueless. I fell in love with that movie. It was funny, clever, and sweet.
I read a review in the school newspaper that it was based on Emma. I remember going to the library and checking out your works in one volume. I read Emma, loved it and then turned my attention to Pride and Prejudice. I loved the title.
I devoured the book, loving every moment of it. I fell in love with Mr. Darcy, admired Lizzie, and felt badly for Jane for most of the book. In my opinion, it's the greatest love story ever told.
I adore reading sequels, prequels, or Pride and Prejudice from a different viewpoint. I love the mini series. I like the movie. I admit there are parts of the movie, I prefer to the mini-series, but as a whole, I'm a Colin Firth fan.
In graduate school, a cataloging professor realized my love of Pride and Prejudice (and Mr. Darcy through my email), she invited me to her college library to see a first edition copy. I held the three volumes in my hand. It was a magical moment.
I'm so greatful that 200 years later, we have the chance to read Pride and Prejudice, along with your other works. Thank you for writing such an amazing story (not to mention your other stories). I only wish you lived longer to share more stories with us. I also wish that your letters had not been burned, I'm so curious as to the secrets we will never learn of your life.
The mark of a wonderful piece of art is how much influence it has over other artists and works of art. Jane's work has touched and inspired so many!! Great post...
ReplyDeleteYou held a first edition in your hands??? So awesome. And I seriously need to watch Clueless--I've been wanting to for a while!
ReplyDeleteHere's why I love Pride and Prejudice...
First editions? In your hands? Awesome on so many levels. Love your tribute! (Slightly envious of your hands.)
